The jury awarded almost $3mil because they were privy to expert testimony and all the evidence. She had third degree burns on her inner thighs and had to have skin grafts. I've had second degree burns before and that was painful enough. Was $3mil excessive? The jury wanted to send a message. You be the judge.

Didn't the judge reduce the verdict, too? The documentary is a must see.
He would be in violation of department policy.. no department lets anyone take anything for free if they are on duty and or in uniform,,,, UNLESS IT IS FREE FOR EVERYONE.. as in some kind of promotion and there was no expectation of anything in return

Which came first - the Crohn's disease or the hot coffee? He had underlying Crohn's, which is a progressive and debilitating disease. Moderate to advanced Crohn's is pretty much the end of the career for a cop. You have to wonder if the Crohn's was getting out of control and he was looking for something to blame that on.
The way for Starbucks to make him an outcast in his own department is to invoke the "Kohr rule." No more free coffee for cops from that police department because their Officer Kohr sued them over a free cup.

Crohn's disease is not well understood. I did a research paper on it for an immunology course a few years ago. I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that you can't predict an outbreak. A friend with the disease was symptom free for nearly 30 years, and then it suddenly came back for unknown reasons.
This opportunist is going to have a hard time proving that his condition was triggered by a coffee spill. Poor little baby.
Well if they gave the free coffee toa homeless vet it would have been appreciated more.
