Hyperventilating about trophy hunting is not exactly a past time of the right.

All the right wing NRA members must be terribly proud. He should be the keynote speaker at the next republican't convention. Maybe a tea party event at the least.

Possibly. This is one sick individual.

But photographer and eco tourism puts continuous dollars into their economy. Perhaps millions were lost because of the loss of this one lion. Hunting in parks is illegal and it is up to the hunter to know what is happening, it is as much his responsibilty as those he pays. Limited controlled hunting of some species has been sucessful in funding conservation and it would be wrong to judge all hunters as evil but people shooting lions giraffes and elephants for pleasure does not sound like great hunters to me.

Aside from the fact people are ignoring this was not a sanctioned hunt, but that they illegally lured the lion out of what was supposed to be his safe home, a reserve, even trying to detach the collar from his dead body. To me this only adds to the perception of the "ugly American" who just does whatever he wants as long as he has the money and cares not whether it's legal or not, wrong or not.

With all the lions in Africa, why pick the one who is beloved by the public and even given a pet name? WTH is wrong with people?

In addition to THAT, lions in the wild live 10-14 years...this was one 13, so this was the "hunting" equivalent of luring an elderly man out of a nursing home and shooting him. Wow, what a big, tough man this guy is!

No, he is NOT a hunter. He didn't HUNT that lion. It was brought to him to kill.

He had a license, was likely sanctioned.

Baiting is not illegal in the US, it likely is not in Africa. The lion happened across their bait and got hunted. From the article they were not in the preserve.
