Parents at a California elementary school took their kids out of class after their annual trip to visit Santa Claus was canceled following a complaint from a Jewish mom.
About 30 students were taken to see St. Nick by their parents who were furious that the Sartorette Elementary School in San Jose canceled their trip.
I'm with the Jewish mom on this. Why should her or our taxes fund such activities? Oh and by the way kids, Santa is a fictional character.
I'm really tired of listening to these whiners and their "War on Christmas" BS.
Many moons ago, my third-grade public school teacher at a school in coastal North Carolina was Jewish. They were the only Jewish family in town. She taught us a Hanukah song that I remember to this day. And I'm richer for it.
I'm usually troubled when people tried to shut down Christmas. But I don't understand why a public school is hauling kids to see Santa on school time. Never heard of such a thing. There's nothing educational about that.
Santa is yet another victim of our overly sensitive / PC world.
Oh come on.
There are fat dudes in beards and red outfits everywhere. Everywhere!
Why a school needs to take a special trip to see yet one more is beyond me.
I don't get why parents are into this to that extent. It's something families would want to do together, no? I don't get the appeal of having teachers take your child to sit on some strange guy's lap when you're quite capable of doing it yourself.

Like religion schools have no business taking kids to see Santa. The lady knew they were going on a field trip to see Santa but waited until the field trip was underway to complain? REALLY??
Most posters appear to agree with the Jewish mom, but somehow I am sure the reaction would be entirely different if the mom was Muslim. Ah, you never gotta offend the Chosen Tribe.
I don't think religion has a place in our schools either. But, didn't the supreme court rule that Santa was secular? I vaguely remember a case a few years ago over a display with a Santa. Regardless, I'd rather my taxes be spent in the classroom.
1. Inappropriate field trip for a public school.
2. Nothing significant to do with the curriculum.
3. Taking kids to see Santa is the job of the parents.
4. Taxpayers should not be paying for that kind of field trip.
^^This^^
What does a field trip to see Santa have to do with education?

Parents should be taking their own children to see Santa anyway. It's really weird to me how many parents expect the school to do their parenting for them. Now the snowflakes are ditching school because Santa is more important. Great parenting!
