On June 16, police were called to an unlikely scene: an end-of-the-year class party at the William P. Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood.
A third grader had made a comment about the brownies being served to the class. After another student exclaimed that the remark was "racist," the school called the Collingswood Police Department, according to the mother of the boy who made the comment.
Dos Santos said that the school overreacted and that her son made a comment about snacks, not skin color.
There is no report on exactly what the 9 year old boy had said about the brownie that was considered racist. Apparently the parents were also reported to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, so now they will probably have to fight them to keep their child.
I saw this and wondered why the police officer did not tell the school officials how stupid this was instead of playing along and adding to the silliness.
I read the article more carefully. I still don't get why the school staff would be so brainless to call the cops over things like this, even if they were told to. Its wrong on so many levels.
Wow, I thought my Kindergarten principal lacked a spine 35 years ago, but this "takes the CAKE".
