A Sunday afternoon in October, while her mother — who was using prescription tranquilizers — was napping in their Arkansas home, 3-year-old Alexis Haney climbed into the washing machine and closed the lid.
The young children in the home told police they were used to helping with the laundry.
The washing machine, which the family used as a dirty clothes hamper, was programmed to switch on when the lid closed. After the clothes were clean, one child would climb into the open machine and pass the wet clothes to another, who would then toss them into the dryer.
Alexis closed the lid — and hot water started to pour in.
Authorities said she died from “scaling and thermal injuries,” according to a probable cause affidavit filed earlier this week in Calhoun County Circuit Court.
The worst is that she should have been on CPS's radar big and bright due to her having been on prescription meds (without a valid script) with her infant in the car driving so badly other people had to pull over. Someone should've been watching this family.
I never hire anyone under 18 to watch my kids, and usually above 20. One day I had a teacher at my kid's preschool (at least 30 years old) was baby sitting. I knew she was fun loving...but I get home and my kid is IN THE DRYER! Playing hide and seek. And she was totally fine with that, like its ok for kids to climb in appliances. I was dumbfounded. She didn't sit for us again.
And the last line of the story, writing about the mother: "Haney is expected to have another baby next month."
Sometimes all you want to do is scream.
Looking at her Facebook page it doesn't appear she is in jail and it seems like she has her kids. All it is is constant memes about how much she is grieving, "fund raising" and how much she loves her boyfriend. No mention of how the child died or anything.
Although, best as you can tell from the photos, the children seemed cared for and loved.
Absolutely sickening, this 'mother' had no business with these children, a total failure of the system.

No - if you listen to the soundtrack, it clearly says scalding. Which makes sense, I can't imagine how scaling in this context would be harmful.

Condolences to the family.
Um, yes, that was clearly just a typo in the printed report, as I think most people could figure out from the context?
