You're cheering the fact that he also deleted ALL of the archives, basically ALL of the articles these journalists worked on for years? Some of those articles covered vital pieces of history for various cities that are now completely lost.

That's probably a thread in itself lol
He owned the information since it was his business and his to do with what he wished. I don't think it was the right thing to do but I don't own that company.

He deleted articles that predated his ownership of some of these sites (he bought Gothamist and those related sites earlier this year). I see no real reason to immediately delete all those articles other than to be vindictive. It makes finding a new job as a journalist so much harder without an active/live portfolio (just having a draft on your hard drive isn't enough, employers want links).

Ownership is ownership, he was perfectly within his rights (assuming all the legal work was done right).
As for vindictive, yea, probably. Nothing irreplaceable though (some hours of work).
I'm on the fence with unions. The idea is good, they formed Because work was dangerous and common sense safety items were being ignored. Too bad they've been turned into just a way to soak money from employees and try to strong-arm employers. Not sure why writes need a union though.....

I agree it was the wrong thing to do but if he bought the company and its rights then he can do what with it he wants.
27 of 115 voted for the union .. so barely 25% of a companies employees can control a company ?
This does make me wonder. Unions were started for a purpose, but these days they've lost site of "Beware of becoming that which you fight against", and remind me of nothing so much as a divorced couple fighting over the children.
The story is not well written. It states it closed because it was not turning a profit. It also states employees voted to join a union, but it did not state this means the company was going to be unionized, just stated the fact a a vote took place, and some employees voted "yes" to joining.
That being said, a lot of times people turn to unions because working conditions and compensation have really depreciated. If the company was as unprofitable for as long as the article says, there's a good chance the employees were being squeezed for everything they had and more.
Failing company/business model + poor working conditions + disgruntled employees = a bad time.
The vote to organize may have simply accelerated their demise.
I don't see why anybody would hate being in a union enough to want to give up better compensation and benefits. Money is freedom and working Union I get more of both.
