And no one talks about the fact that older men have issues with sperm quality that can cause birth defects.

I do.

I was born to an older father. He was about 43 when I was born. We played catch with Mom. We went hiking with Mom. Anything physical we did with Mom. He just didn't have the energy, even though he was not ill. We didn't like having the oldest and most inactive Dad among all our friends.

In most cases, I think it is better for the kids if their parents are still energetic through their teen years and also that they are still alive when their children's children have grandparents.

I know there are some exceptions....and we'll likely read about them following this post.

No, but a man getting a woman pregnant when he is in his 50s is still much less surprising than a woman becoming pregnant in her 50s, the resultant quality of the fetus based on the man's sperm notwithstanding. So no, it isn't weird that not as much fuss is usually made of the former than the latter.

What a tough life that must have been. Too bad. You had it rough, that's for sure.

No one mentioned Sir Elton John, he is 71 years old with young kids. Compared to him, Bridgette is barely past her twenties. I spoke to plenty of grandparents on the job who were raising their son or daughters kids, due to drugs, jail, whatever the reason was. It’s not uncommon these days. Wishing Bridgette and her new daughter well.
