I doubt any such tenants are trying to rent $500-600k home properties. A one-room apartment would be plenty as long as it's clean and safe. But in most urban areas, even those have blown through the roof in cost.
Immigrants are not taking any jobs "good white folk" will do. And you know it.
Nonsense. Who do you think did these jobs before the 1980s? The low-skilled laborers that we already had here, that's who.
If there aren't enough "good white folk" as you say to fill these jobs, guess what happens? Wages rise. As long as you have a glut of willing labor, wages are going to always remain stagnant... and as they should.
As for the California pecan farmers... it sounds like if they can't get workers, they need to pay a higher wage. If a builder can't find someone to hang drywall for $10/hr, maybe it is time to start paying $12 or $15. Same goes for laying sod. Or working the drive thru line at Anyburger USA.
Sure, the prices of some things would rise a little bit in order to pay those higher wages. That's how the economy should work.
California farmers are paying that now, but they still can't get citizens to work for more than a few days no matter what they pay them. And you nailed the reason - it's not year round work, and farms are not usually near towns and cities, so why would someone quit their day job and drive 80 miles a day to work on a farm for $2 more than they were making at walmart when the job will be done in 8 or 10 weeks?
Nonsense. If they paid $100/hr, there would be millions of people willing to do it.
Finland has 5.5M people in an area about that of New Mexico, with nearly all the population in one third of that. A small population in a small area with enormous homogeneity is easy ground for collective action.
Taxes have nothing much to do with it except that Americans are conditioned to believe their own hard-earned dollars are worth more than lives.
I don't believe that my hard earned dollars are worth more than lives, but I do believe that my hard earned dollars are worth more than perverted, corrupt government programs that do nothing to tackle the problems they are supposed to remedy, but only assure the administrators of those programs good paying jobs, pensions, and benefits.
