It changes things because it opens a conversation on the matter. She paid for her ticket, and she's not inconveniencing anyone. Why should she move? Why should the other gentleman be placed in a position to offer his seat? Why should she have to accept the benevolence of another passenger?
You would've just simply accepted the situation, inconvenienced yourself and others, and accommodated these people? Well, that's what's stupid, really. The more we accommodate such people and their imposition on society, the more free they feel to impose upon us.
And this isn't just in the course of air travel. These kinds of situations are encroaching upon every aspect of our lives with increasing frequency, and I think the majority are tired of it. Whether it's the bus, the subway, the mall, the restaurant, wherever. They are in the wrong, and they need to be called out for it.
I don't think anyone has even yet mentioned what these people must've SMELLED like. Or the fact that they were gonna be squawking back and forth to each other during the entire flight. I think her reaction was courageous and totally understandable.
Yes.
And there was no seat available by the window. In their zeal to call the woman "rude," while curiously ignoring the obese woman's profanity-laced rant, some here are forgetting, or didn't hear, that he said the window seat was, in fact, NOT available.
The obese couple were wrong to impose on an unsuspecting passenger what THEY chose not to endure, as evidenced by her sitting by the window and him, by the aisle: their folds and flab restricting--and constricting-- each other's movements. And United knew it was wrong, too, which is why they provided the complainer another flight.
That couple had a lot of nerve getting indignant. She fit in her seat; neither one of them fit in theirs. And the fact that she's a "Platinum" passenger doesn't change a thing.
"ETA: Also, if you have a double chin, maybe don't lecture strangers about being fat. Glass houses and all."
Her double chin had no bearing on those sitting next to her, who were each 2.5x wider than her. Wtf is wrong with you? such an irrelevent thing to point out, and for no reason other than to insult.
Aaaw. I'm not PC. I tell it like it is.
She has a double chin and is not exactly Tinkerbell. That particular seat between those 2 people was especially egregious, but she'd be feeling squished no matter what seat she sat in.
She has every right to complain to UNITED, and to demand that the situation be remedied. It's not her place to lecture (other) fat strangers about their lifestyles and eating salad. Those 2 people purchased the seats that UNITED allowed them to purchase, and then occupy upon boarding. Attempting to put on a Shame Shame Fatties phone skit isn't going to solve anything, other than indulge her bitchery. It's not going to get her a better seating situation. The other male passenger across the aisle, and the fat woman, are the 2 people who took actual proactive steps to make United aware of her unhappiness. And the fat man is sitting as far into the aisle as possible to try to assuage her, despite all the insults. All she did was sit there with her petulant double chins causing a scene that nobody on that plane wanted, and that didn't solve anything.

OH THE PROFANITY!
Your girl Cloroxlocks says "F--kin Christ" at 2:20.
Weight loss isn't an easy feat, especially when you have certain factors working against you... and you might think that describes the minority, but I'd guess it is actually the majority. Do you really think anyone would be fat if the solution was simply to "have a salad once in a while?" Doubt it.
If being obese was more about medical conditions than the amount you eat, don't you think you would see similar numbers of obese people in Afghanistan and North Korea? Funny thing though, where food is scarce you don't see much obesity.

I didn't even see a double chin, she looked height/weight proportionate to me. Your ranting is nothing more than insults, you have no valid point here afaic.

This is true. Also, the obesity epidemic has exploded over the past 30 years so it can't all be blamed on genetics, either. It is very directly related to how much food a person consumes. Some weight problems are due to medical issues, but many times, that's only one factor and the person is still consuming too much food which makes the problem worse.
Psych drugs make people fat by causing high blood sugar, many people who are on a lot of psych drugs have to be on metformin.
And yet the majority of the population remains height/weight proprtionate. But none of this has anything to do with why this morbidly obese couple purchased 2 end seats in a 3 seat row.
That's beyond rude.

Yes, and this is the main issue at hand. That's being intentionally inconsiderate. It's not a public bus where people can stand and seats are of no guarantee. Someone is going to purchase that seat.
