He may or may not be found, usually deceased after this length of time. People don't just walk away without shoes or any of their personal things such as a wallet or cell phone.
LE should know what originally happened to him as there should be a lot of video cameras where he lives.

Austin has had people go missing like this too. I read at least one was after getting separated from friends at a bar. I think they have found several bodies in the water.
Right, I wonder if there is any video of the event caught by surveillance cameras. You would think that placing cameras in student housing complex would be a good idea.
I don't know who the PI is, but.. I always take things they say with a bit of a grain of salt. They're working for the family and often are influenced by such. Sadly, in some peoples minds, a PI does a good job only if there's a successful recovery of the person. Solving the case, regardless of how it turns out is secondary.
And, they have some financial motivations as well. Not all PIs are bad.. Again, I know nothing about this guy, he might be one of the good ones. But.. The fact he's talking to media more than asking for information.. Rubs me wrong.
Abduction seems.. Out there for me. Now, not knowing anything about the kid in question.. There's always the possibility that he was the campus drug dealer and got grabbed and whacked elsewhere. Always a possibility. But.. It certainly doesn't have that vibe to it.
The thing that keeps coming into my mind, and why I keep thinking water is that I have to believe this is likely accidental, not anything nefarious.
It's also possible he just disappeared himself intentionally. But.. Like him being a drug dealer.. Doesn't have that vibe to it. Suicide? Meh.. While I might put some weight into that, pending on his grades and how much pressure he was under.. You have the fact that he ordered lunch for the next day. Still possible it was a spur of the moment thing but.. I'd be shocked.
Exactly how many MALE 21 year olds get abducted in the US? I'd give this a little more leeway towards abduction if it was a 21 year old woman.
This is the most devastating horror that a parent can experience, a missing child.
I pray for peace as these parents go through this. But, I can tell you, there is very little peace until there is some resolution, if there is a resolution. Depending on the resolution, a whole new horror story can develop and last for years.
Do people really get up at 2:30 AM to take their dog for a walk? Or was that just something to do to APPEAR to be doing something legitimate while he actually was up to something fishy or illegal?
My guess is that he was up at that hour for some nefarious reason, and whomever he was meeting with (or someone they knew) is responsible for his disappearance. Check with his friends, girlfriend, classmates, and acquaintances to learn his habits and whom he associated with. That will provide the clues to find out what happened and possibly who was involved in his disappearance.
