Hello all ,so I'm here now and someone told me that Irving was a nice place with some good schools. I like Plano but want some places with exempt.schools and diversity .Richardson is ok ,but some areas look kind of " ghetto" and out dated I mean don't get me wrong sometimes outdated is better. But now that I'm here to see some areas for myself I'm weighing my options before I rent an apt. So how is Irving ? I'm into home health nursing so I will be traveling during the day around Dallas and north end. Thanks for imputs.

Irving is very large and well located. It is actually 2 towns served by 3 school districts. One is core Irving (Irving School District), and the other is Las Colinas/Valley Ranch/North Irving.

Irving school district does not have highly rated schools, in general. There is a section in Irving (Plymouth Park/Hospital District) that is served by Recognized schools K-12. But for the most part Irving ISD isn't that highly regarded.

Las Colinas in zip code 75039 and Valley Ranch (in zip 75063, but east of MacArthur) is served by Carrollton/Farmer Branch Schools, and most of those schools that serve Valley ranch are highly rated.

Valley Ranch (zip 75063, west of MacArthur) is served by Coppell Schools. Coppell Schools are among the most highly regarded schools in all the DFW area.

So, how is Irving for schools? It depends on where you live in Irving. How is Irving for living? I like it. There are many parts of Irving (West of Belt Line and also south of Grauwyler) that have "ghetto looking areas. However almost all areas north of Northgate between Luna and Story Rds are very, very nice

By the way, Plano has great schools, as does Richardson,Allen, Frisco, Grapevine and Southlake. Dallas in zip code 75248 is largely served by Richardson schools. In DFW, school district lines don't always follow town borders so be sure to know what school districts serve any place you are researching. Here is a good map to help you know the ratings of schools by area. Select the school district by the drop down and then look on the map.

The 75039 zip code in Irving is awesome. Expensive, but awesome.

If you have to travel every day in DFW, you should find a place in zip code 75039 in Irving. It's surrounded by major highways, 635, 114, and 161. Very, very convinent. Also 35 is very close.

there are really 3 parts of irving, north irving which is very nice most of the people living there are middle class to very very wealthy. Then there is valley ranch wich is so far north in irving its practically coppell, valley ranch has its own school district and is primarily uppermiddle class. And finally you have south Irving. South Irving is almost like its own city as well. Mainly hispanic population ( just guessing I'd say prob 60-70 percent maybe higher). I would not recomend moving to south irving unless you absolutley have to. Ive grown up in that area went to all the public schools in south irving and theyre full of bad kids. No lie out of our starting defense on the varsity football team 4 of the 11 starters are in prison for 15 plus years for armed robbery. It wasnt uncommon to have huge black on mexican brawls that continued through out my four years of high school and im sure they still go on today. The teachers dont teach the kids in the regular classes because they would either be too scared to take back the class room or they just didnt give a damn. Of couse at the time I loved it because we never had to do any homework and what little class work we did was a joke, but now that ive been an on again off again college student its frustrating because there are basic things that I am supposed to know but have never heard of. If you do have to live in south irving with your kids you have to keep them busy! Sports, band, what ever just dont let them have to much free time and get mixed up with the wrong crowd cause its very easy. Im very opinionated about irving exspecially south irving and i have lived in this city for 24 years and i have to say that for its location, cheap cost of living and because of all the jobs around here id say its the best place to live in the dfw.

Plano has some of the best schools in Texas. There are also areas of the city (to the north and east) that are extremely diverse.

My kids' elementary school in Plano is 40% white, 40% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 10% black - how's that for diversity?

Valley Rach - west of McArthur is Coppell ISD and east is CFB ISD.

Most importantly in the DFW area is to get close to work as possible and still be in a safe area if you travel the normal commuter times.

I myself live in Aubrey and travel to Dallas and Ft. Worth often, but I travel at off peak hours and it's no big deal usually.

If you're going to work N. Dallas.........Try looking in Prosper, Frisco or maybe Little Elm.........
