Lakewood shopping center sold to Lincoln Property | Dallas-Fort Worth Commercial Real Estate News - Business News for Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Morning News

"A landmark Dallas shopping center has quietly been sold to developers who plan to upgrade the property.

Lincoln Property Co. has purchased the central block of the Lakewood retail district at Abrams Road and Gaston Avenue.

The almost 60,000-square-foot East Dallas building is home to several longtime tenants including The Dixie House and Lakewood Ace Hardware.

The property has been owned for decades by Dallas' Corrigan family"

Dixie House - used to eat there a LOT back in the '70s. And I used to know a couple of the Corrigans - officed in their building at Lemmon and Oak Lawn for several years.

Older retail centers need to be upgraded every so many years to stay competitive and attract top tenants. Probably needs it.

Lincoln Properties does a good job with their properties - it will be interesting to see what their plans end up looking like! Can't wait.

I sort of hate that Mi Cocina is replacing Matt's. Not that I dislike Mi Cocina, I actually love it, but they're all over the place now. Matt's was a nice, more unique fixture in the shopping center.

Matt's is a great place to hang out. Unfortunately they haven't been able to maintain the building. Mi Cocina will be a much nicer and cleaner place...AND...killer margs!!

I always get worried when I hear a place is being "upgraded." While I agree that the shopping center could use a facelift, I hope they don't jack up the rents so that only high-end merchants can afford to be there. With that said, some better dining options would be welcomed now that Matt's is leaving. The mediocre Italian place and the glorified Black Eyed Pea just aren't much of a draw.

The shopping center has multiple owners - especially in the section from Cantina Laredo to Snow Pea (Lincoln tried to buy that in the 1980s). The section that was sold is on the east side of Abrams Parkway (original Abrams Road), south of Gaston and north of LaVista. It was originally part of Lakewood Country Club from 1912 to 1939.
