What I really hate about the Dallas area so far... (Howe: camp, dangerous) - Texas (TX) - City-Data Forum

are all these "center lane bandits". Having higher speed limits is great, and coming from years of driving on the west and east coasts, I had an expectation that a lot of people wouldn't want to drive that fast, and would hang towards slow lane, with the occasional knucklehead in the fast lane.

However, it's unbelievable to me how many people just camp out in the center lane going 10-15 mph below the speed limit. That's far more dangerous than either fast or slow lane, as it can be difficult to cut over into either lane (since you have slow pokes to the right, and speed demons to the left). There's definitely a group of Texans that need a few refresher driving lessons...

Wait till you encounter one going the wrong way.

Unfortunately, that's not unique to Dallas (having seen them first hand on both coasts)

I've driven here for decades and I still don't understand what's up with folks who do that. It is clearly very dangerous and rude as heck.

I'm bothered more by the idiot road hogs who go slow in the left lane, or who ride other peoples' quarter panels so I can't get around them.

I'd rather they go slow in the center than in the left lane. Those people make me stabby.

Fancy, I have yet to really meet anyone on the highways going slower than 5-15 mph over the speedlimit.

If I was going to complain about just one thing here is the complete and utter lack of blinker use, it's dangerous and completely idiotic.

It's usually to do eye make-up, send off a really long text or eat ice cream (out of a cup) that the fast lane gets slowed down. Get all Nurgburgring and 'flash to pass'.

People who drive slow in the left lane and those driving slow in any lane except the center are one in the same. Those are the worst drivers. Bad problem in DFW, especially the FW side. I hate the ones who enter the freeway and maneuver their way to the left lane, only to cruise there and not pass anybody. The 18-wheelers who go into the left lane suck too. Traffic has to flow people.
