posting links to DMN articles is just waste of time for most posters--we aren't paying the subscription

My subscription was a gift otherwise there is no need to spend money on DMN when one can get all the news elsewhere. Let's see for how long they are going to resist new world.

I know this is is useless info, so no one go off on me, but I thought it interesting that Des Moines transit system is called DART and it has a county in it's metro called Dallas County.

Dallas Rapid Transit System......called DART
Bay Area Rapid Transit System.....called BART

used to be an 1990's joke: "What will they call Fort Worth's rail system??"

But of course they named it TRE.

LOL! Yeah F.A.R.T. would not be a good name for a transit system.

Wink Dallas Chatter

I loved living in the Metroplex, but the city of Dallas, just seems like someone said, "Heck! We need a city here! Let's just through one up!". Having grown up outside of Boston, and appreciating how neighborhoods evolve and the history of Boston, I just didn't see much of that there; history or evolution of the area.

Not quite.

Dallas started out as a trading post where three forks of the Trinity River came together and there was an easy place to ford the river. In 1873, a major east-west railroad intersected a major north-south railroad. So, Dallas became a place of commerce for a chunk of Texas. In 1914, a Federal Reserve Bank was built in Dallas. So, Dallas was still a center of business and banking. After WWII, Dallas really started growing with the advent of affordable air conditioning. So, yes, much of the city seems "new" but has been growing for awhile.

It's not really fair to compare a city founded in 1630 with one founded 200 years later and complain that the latter comes up short in terms of history. Having said that, the city and residents of Dallas, until recently, have not done a great job of preserving and promoting the history that's here (its nexis for blues music in the early 20th century for example).

You forgot to tell him/her the part where Dallas tore a lot of its old historic buildings & neighborhoods down all in the name of progress or so they thought back then.
