There is no topic in this thread, thus why it's named the Off-Topic chat thread - see 1st post. You're welcome to switch from one discussion to another, from one post to the next, and the discussion does not have to pertain to Dallas.

The poster was complaining about the topic, yet kept posting on it. Hence my post. But, thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Default WinCo readies for first 2 DFW openings

Winco is much like Costco , but in MY opinion... BETTER.

You don't need a "membership", and there are BARRELS of candy, spices, and cereals, etc...
which can be bought by the pound.

WinCo are HUGE stores that sell in bulk AND regular sizes. And the prices are comparable to Walmart ,
but most of the times... CHEAPER!

We used to go there (in Northern California) for the majority of our shopping.
And have been WISHING for WinCo to make it to TEXAS!

I'm ecstatic about WinCo making it to the DFW !

This is a BIG DEAL, and I recommend ANYONE that likes buying name brand foods, in BULK,
for competitive prices that are comparable to the cheapest store(s) around,
then I recommend WinCo.

Hopefully they will bring one CLOSER into the Dallas City limits.

Here is a link with the news:

If anyone has any experience shopping at WinCo, please share.

Don't forget Texas leads the country in Wind power generation and makes the contemporary weather vanes used to produce it. Some say they believe in an all of the above energy policy. Texas shows it does believe that rather than just talk about it

If anyone's curious why I'm not stoked by 5,000 more jobs moving here:

Glad I'm not the only one reading between the lines.

Assuming they all relocate:

That's at least 5,000 more households (potentially more if divorced spouses follow the custodial parent to the new city which DOES happen), at least 5,000 more cars on the road, children of up to 5k people flooding the schools, not to mention the additional pressure on the power grid and water supply...already devastated by drought. At some point we'll run out of resources, houses, water, and power. Just saying. We're going to "just another 5k" ourselves into disaster.
We are going to run out of houses? Have you been to Tokyo, New York, Paris, etc. Power- not really an issue is it? Please see natural gas, oil, wind generation, solar, etc.

As for water, it is a real threat, but every major city in the world faces the same threat.

You are missing the point- we are getting 3-5k very smart/rich people moving to our city. Yes, there might be some downside, but certainly the pros outweigh the cons. Moreover, since the metroplex is growing by 100k per year, I hardly think that we can be too concerned that it might grow by a couple of extra thousand.

Water is a big issue most places these days. We have a source north east of us in SE Oklahoma where they get as much rain as Houston. Lake Huge reportedly has a huge surplus flowing over the damn, enough to more than handle the needs of NYC. Politics are in the way now with State of Ok not allowing sell to Texas but the Native tribes have a claim on water and are more inclined than the state to address the needs while maintaining an adequate surplus for fishing and recreational use.

Texas has more conventional electrical generation capacity than CA, IL, and NY combined, not counting wind power. And more is on the books - not counting the generating capacity the major manufacturers have - and who WILL sell into the grid if things head south on a bad winter's day.

The real story about economic growth is the move of major manufacturers to Texas AND the expansion of port facilities. Toyota is big but the underlying growth fundamentals dwarf the Toyota move.
