TONIGHT - 12/3 Mockingbird Station Las Posadas (from advocatemag.com):

Woodrow Wilson High School's show choir, Variations, is performing from 6-8 p.m. tonight outside of Urban Taco in Mockingbird Station. The choir will perform Christmas songs, and Urban Taco will have samples of traditional Las Posadas treats.

Watch the real fabulous show choir, then you can go home and watch the fake fabulous show choir on "Glee," which starts at 8 p.m.

FRIDAY - 12/4 Light Up Lakewood

Ring in the Season - Lakewood, Dallas, TX (http://lakewood-dallas.blackwhiteread.com/view/articles/17251?page=1 - broken link)

The community comes together like all the Whos down in Whoville gathering in the town square when the seventh annual Light Up Lakewood festival rings in the holiday season.

The event takes place from 6-9 p.m., Dec. 4, at Lakewood Shopping Center. The tree-lighting portion of the program happens at the grassy slope at the northwest corner of the Gaston Avenue-Abrams Road intersection.

Activities this year spread across the intersection. Carriage rides take off from the Lakewood Theater, Santa sits for photos and wish lists at Talulah Belle, his wife tells stories at Paciugo Lakewood, and face painting occurs at the T Shop.

Variations carolers from Woodrow Wilson High School sing songs of the season. BeBe Grand offers refreshments, Curiosities provides refreshments and live music, and Times Ten Cellars brings out mulled wine, lights a fire on the patio, and offers half-price glasses of wine.

Over at Whole Foods, there’ll be live music and Frito pie, s’mores, and hot chocolate for purchase. Profession Bank-Lakewood brings in [groan] rein-steer for photo opportunities for people who carry their own cameras.

Cantina Laredo will have a Mexican music trio, plus happy hour from 4-7 p.m., Blow conducts an open house with wine and cheese, and Green Living pours hot chocolate...

Tonight Thursday, December 3rd is Christmas on the Square in Downtown Garland. Santa will arrive via helicopter and then be ready to see all the kiddo's. Different choirs will be singing and there will be vendors set up selling their crafts. I've been going for years and love it. For those that are unfamiliar with the area I suggest taking the DART train from the Forest Ln/Jupiter station and just riding over (it is the next stop). This way you don't have to worry about parking and such. The downtown stop is right where they will have the road closed anyway and you will be closer than those that are trying to park at the event.

Saturday morning is the Adolphus Childrens Parade as mentioned earlier.

Every Saturday night thru December there are fireworks at Firewheel Town Center in Garland. They have a small outdoor ice rink as well.

As a small kid, I can remember going to Garland to see Santa arrive in a helicopter in the 1960s. I think it was at a K Mart (an rare store at the time). I wonder if that is a tradition which started from back in those days.

Also on Saturday:

Winterfest at Norbuck Park

Winterfest at Norbuck will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free and there will be crafts, entertainment, carriage rides, tree lighting, pictures with Santa and holiday gifts! Norbuck Park is located at 200 N. Buckner Blvd. (across from Flag Pole Hill and bounded by Northwest Highway and Buckner Boulevard). For more information, email dallaswinterfest@hotmail.com.
