Hey everyone!

I work at Tyson Foods and the decision has been made to transfer me from our plant in Kansas to the plant in Dallas. A little background, I did very little research when I moved from the Green Bay, WI area (where I was born and raised) to Kansas a couple years ago for the new job opportunity. This time around, I decided I would actually do my due diligence and try to find out everything I could before making the move. I'm not a big party animal and could much better be described as a homebody, so living directly in a "hot spot" isn't really high on my priority list as having to drive to the action every once in awhile is fine with me.

I'm a 27 y/o caucasian male who would likely be moving down with my girlfriend and our two dogs. After renting my whole time I've been in Kansas I'd like to ideally buy somewhere (first-time homebuying is always an easy task right... ). I'm thinking the price range that I'll be looking is around the $100,000-$125,000. I realize I'm not going to be living in the lap of luxury with that, but figure it'll make me a homeowner without breaking the bank/having to live paycheck to paycheck. The plant is down in Duncanville and I've been doing alot of my searching down in that direction but figured I'd open it up to some input from the "geographic professionals" down there. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

tl;dr
- 27, Caucasian Male
- Kind of a homebody, not a big party animal. So don't need the most hip location
- Will be working in Duncanville (prefer to keep the commute in the 20-30 minute range)
- Approximate Home Cost Target - $100,000-$125,000

Your commute can be kept to 10-20 minutes and you can stay in the same area of Duncanville or neighboring Cedar Hill. Look from Highway 67 southward through Cedar Hill to Midlothian. There may be options west of 67 on 20 in Grand Prairie. I can highly recommend my town of Cedar Hill(home of the state champion Cedar Hill Lornhorns!),a safe and short comute for you.You should be able to find a smaller home or foreclosure that suits you.

State Champion in which sport? I do enjoy watching High School sports, so I'm intrigued! Appreciate the input and will add that area into my searching and help increase the possibilities.

My mistake, forgot I was moving to Texas! Does any other HS sport matter?

We are nationally ranked, have one of the top programs in the state in Texas Division II high school football! But the North Texas area pretty much swept the state championships this year. Shout out to the Allen Eagles, Denton Guyer, Aledo, and Argyle,

I second Cedar Hill. It also has the best shopping of all the cities in that area, if that's important to you or your girlfriend.

Your low budget will make things challenging so if you decide to rent awhile there are nice apartments in the area, and there are new, walkable uptown area apartment units coming up in a few months that are going to be really nice, walkable to shops and eateries, and right down the street from the Cedar Hill Police Department.

I think I'd likely be making the move in mid-late Feb. And the renting option is for sure on the table early on, but after renting my whole time in Kansas I realize how little I have to show for all the rent money I've had to pay (if that makes sense).
