There's a guy out in Weatherford who can set his well water on fire it has so much methane in it. His beautiful house is pretty much worthless now.

That's biogenic gas, it's been tested and proved so. It's not repeat not methane from drilling. PT Barnum would be thrilled with you guys.

I don't want to beat that guy up but he's moved the goal posts several times.

A. That's not a water pipe it's a vent.
B. He keeps saying the gas is methane from drilling but the only samples handled by credible labs (Texas A&M was one IIRC) tested as biogenic.
C. The guy appears to be in significant legal peril for possibly rigging/tricking up the videos.
D. Water wells - all over Texas have to be vented to stop biogenic and naturally occurring natural gas/methane build-up.

ETA - I had forgotten
A. Lipsky has already lost at least one court case about all this
B. Lipsky's court documents never claimed fracking was the cause of his issues.

Geoffrey Thyne from the EPA and Duke University scientist disagree:

Quote:
Thyne said he is more convinced the gas in at least three of the water wells originates in the Barnett shale — the rock layer from which Range Resources is extracting gas — and is identical to what is found in the company’s well bore

If you read up on this the EPA has been back tracking for years. The Duke guy seems to say there is lot of gas but nothing about the fact that so far none of the samples match the gas being taken from the wells except within his studies which have not been made public.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. My mom has a picture of my granddad burning vented gas from a dug well in Regan County from the 1930s.

Looks like the Texas Railroad Commission is the one backtracking now, since they are reopening the investigation, after basing their previous clearing of Range Resources, on data provided by the company. The Texas Railroad Commission is the only reason his case was thrown out in the first place.

Here's a campaign quote from Judge Trey Loftin who dismissed the case:

Quote:
The EPA, using*falsified evidence provided by a liberal activist environmental consultant,*accused and*fined a local gas driller of contaminating wells, President Barack Obama’s EPA backed down only after Judge Trey Loftin*ruled that the evidence was ‘deceptive'.
Texas Judge

This will be interesting. I can't wait for more news to come out on this.

Is there any oil wells in the Dallas area? I'm looking for some pump jacks.

I'd appreciate input from residents of Denton or Corinth about whether or not they feel pollution is impacting their lives. I don't expect the issue of fracking to be resolved any time soon, but I'd really like to know if it has a day-to-day impact.
Denton seems to have a great deal to offer as a community.
We are seriously thinking of moving there this summer.
Thanks to all who take the time to respond.

I think you'll be fine.

Are you moving there for work? The only downside to Denton would be the very long distance to most job centers. There's not many alternative to i35.

We'll be working from home so the commute isn't a problem.

I'm told I-35 will be a mess for a couple of years.

We're talking I-35 right? It's probably closer to double that estimate.
