My husband went and looked at the Quail Run community in Allen yesterday - liked the Landstar and Drees homes.

Any comments on Quail Run or builders - good--bad?????

He did the commute to and from work during his lunch hour and said it wasn't that bad and thought the community is worth putting on our "possibilities" list. Today he will check out the Frisco area.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I would do the commute dry run during actual commuting times just to get an idea of what it's really like. I can make my commute during lunch in one-third time it takes me to do it during real rush hour times. Although going from Allen to West Plano isn't going to be *that* bad no matter what, relatively speaking.

(I, for example, work 13.6 miles from home and the other day took me 70 minutes to get home, but I am on Central Expressway going north-south.)

ETA - Sorry don't know Quail Run.

Thanks FND for the reply. When my husband did his commute it was all side streets - 15.1 miles. Your 70-minute commute was that all expressway? What time of day iwas it f you don't mind me asking. My husband usually leaves the house by 6:15 AM and leaves the office anywhere from 5:30-6:30 PM.

if you are looking at quail run, i would also recommend that you check out star creek (specifically darling homes).

my wife and i looked at quail run, and for a little bit higher of a price point, got into star creek, which i think has longer upside potential. both are new communities, but i think going with a darling home is going to lend itself better to resale over the long run.

[quote=aexchange;2241819]if you are looking at quail run, i would also recommend that you check out star creek (specifically darling homes).

Star Creek has some really beautiful homes. The area over there is just being deveolped. The theater by the neighborhood is super nice and the stores/eateries are now being built. Plus if you like to workout, Lifetime Fitness is right there. It would also put you close to the Outlets and new mall (being built) on the other side of 75. I don't think it would be a horrible commute to that section of Plano--but wouldn't he have to take surface streets?????? I could be totally wrong on that--I am still 'new' in this town.

On the builders. Landstar--have no idea. Darling--seems to have a good rep, we looked at Darling homes and really like the floor plans. We purchased a Drees and I can only say nice things about them from start to finish. I love (love, love) my floorplan, any issue we have had with the house they have fixed within 2-3 days.

Good luck with this process--I know how stressful it can be!

Thank you for your post and positive comments about Drees. I will make a notation on my research sheet about your experience.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have not heard anything about Darling before. Did look at their website and were just a little bit concerned about what you get for the money. Other builder websites show ammenities and could not find that - big concern would be a builder that would nickle and dime us with upgrade costs. Will have my husband check them and the community out.

Because the company wants my husband there right away, we are looking at inventory houses as well.
