A Raytheon-McKinney transplant from the northeast here...

We commute from Allen. You might consider renting first to get an idea of the area. It is so different from the northeast in terms of housing. We were originally looking for the same things as you but came to realize we didn't want to sacrifice a long commute and living away from amenities for a large lot that would cost a fortune to irrigate anyways. Most of the lots are flat with few trees so you don't really gain much by getting a bigger lot other than grass. We slowly got used to the smaller lots and appreciate that we can now have a lawn maintenance service instead of spending 2-4 hours every weekend on maintaining the yard ourselves. There are so many parks and playgrounds and outdoors activities we don't really miss having a huge yard.

Good luck with the transfer and if you have any Raytheon-specific questions feel free to send me a DM.
