Darling home or Highland at Lawler Park (Frisco, Highlands: sales, home builder)

We are thinking about moving into Lawler Park. The two builders are Darling and Highland. Is one better builder than the other? Thank you.

We bought with Darling in Lawler Park. One tipping factor for us was the sales person for Darling in Lawler Park. "Sia" is his first name. Bar none, Sia is the best sales person to work with for a new home build we have ever encountered. He took the time to go over the building design and suggest changes to meet our needs over several weeks. For example, the one story home design we picked did not meet Frisco city code because the garage jutted out just slightly more than another portion of the house. Sia then on his own time (after the sales office closed) spent hours to modify the design so it met code, but still met our needs. As a former custom home builder, Sia finds these little obstacles a personal challenge that he likes to overcome. Of course, Sia is a very good salesperson and you won't see the extra touches and services he will provide you as a buyer until you get to specifics of the house plan and lot. If you have some minor design changes on your house plan, get ready for Sia to go "above and beyond" what a salesperson does in part because he was a custom home builder himself.

Probably the lot was little too small to fit the model, happens all the time and have happened to us in the past.

BTW, we had the same buying experience and Sia always goes the extra mile.

To answer the question about the plan not meeting code, Frisco changed the building code where a front-entry garage could not jut out further than any other portion of the house. The one story already builit house with the plan we liked now violated city code and we could not purchase it. So Sia spent some hours on the house plan to redesign it to meet code so we could then purchase a house with this plan. Darling's architects did the final design clean-up work on the plan.

we looked in both the builders and finally decided to go with Highland. It gets down to which model you liked between the two builders and what are the standards they both offer. we liked the way the windows and the amount of sunlight that was making the hallway and living room bright with the highland construction. we are building a house with them and they have been very accommodative in answering all the questions and helping us with all our questions. we did have some good changes to the model we chose and they provided us different options based on different budget and helped us all the way in choosing our liking.

What grates me more than occasionally is when persons post questions for feedback and then when you take the time to give that feedback they don't bother acknowledging your feedback in any way. Next time I won't bother commenting.

Thanks everybody. I like one of the Highlands floor plans better but will visit both model homes next month and see which one I like better in person. Good to know both are good builders.

Hello neighbor, just chill down, it happens. What I have seen in these neighborhoods while we were looking was there are lot of window shoppers/first time buyers shopping for more than they can afford. When they look, they get all excited and probably post here. Once they find out the real cost of owning home they move on from the neighborhood and forget or do not care to reply. Just think, if the OP does not care anymore, at least other people can use the info in making a decision just like we did from this board. Look at this guy, this was his first and last post
