Thumbs up Relocating From The UK to Dallas

Hi All,

I have just been offered a Job in Down Town Dallas paying $85K per annum, and I'm looking for some advise on the cost of living over there. So if anyone could assit me with the answers to my following questions it would be most appreciated.
  • First is $85K enough to support a family of 4 and still have a comfortable quality of Life?
  • We would be looking to rent a 4 bed house in the Plano, Richardson area at around 3000-3500 sq ft, how much would this cost? and are there any hidden costs i.e. insurance/taxes that would be added on top?
  • what would be the the rough tax deductions on my salary be?
  • How much would the monthly bills be for electric, gas, TV, Internet, petrol, medical insurance (my employer would be subsidising this) be?
  • How long would the drive to down town be at around 6:30am from Plano?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards

Simmsy

Thought your name rang a bell. You posted a similar question a while back and a few of us answered but we never heard anything again from you. I thought you'd decided against it. We are Brits who have lived in Dallas and will be moving back there (from Illinois) over the summer. Any UK to US questions - don't hesitate to ask.
