Some careless cyclists can be equally rattling.

Yeah, now imagine being a pedestrian and having to jump at literally every other cross walk in broad daylight because drivers are too lazy to not hit you.

The deal is unlike poor drivers, it's their life, not mine that is at risk.

Even if you accidentally hit and hurt/kill a stupid reckless cyclist because they carelessly came in your path and you couldn’t stop in time, it’s still a life cut short, still some family’s loss and still a heavy burden on your conscience. Most drivers would develop PTSD after such an accident.

Sure, but my broader point is most cyclists are far more careful than the average driver, being well aware that they can be easily killed.

When a cyclist or ped is killed much more likely than not it is the motorist's fault.

Most people on two wheels have to be very careful, because it doesn't really matter if you are right if you are dead.

I know people who have been killed while riding their bike and did nothing wrong. I know zero people who were killed on a bike who the cops later determined screwed up.

Imagine totally missing the part of driving school that told you that the roads don't belong solely to cars.

Those scooters are one of the coolest things I like about Dallas. Better than citibikes in NYC.

I hate the damn things. I almost ran over one in Austin because it was half lying in the street. I couldn't see it from the driver's seat. Luckily, my passenger saw it. Who knows what sort of damage running over it would have done to my car? I recently read an article detailing the danger they pose to the mobility impaired and legally blind who have trouble dealing with them littering the sidewalk in random places. A friend of mine lives in NYC and keeps a folded up Razr in her backpack. She says that works better for her than relying on pay per ride scooters.
