Hello. Which areas in and around Dallas have the lowest real estate taxes? Also, are there tax breaks for seniors? Thanks.

You do get breaks over age 65.

Realistically, the property taxes aren’t that different from county to county. 2-3% of value. Generally speaking, newer construction is higher.

One tax break for seniors is the deferral. It accumulates with interest, but doesn't have to stay paid up. Most mortgage lenders don't allow it, but seniors might have their mortgages paid off.

After the senior and homestead are factored in, this example below of a $400,000 property in Dallas is effectively 1.88% for a senior with a homestead exemption.

A quote from the appraisal district website: If you qualify for the 65 or Older Exemption, there is a property tax "ceiling" that automatically limits School taxes to the amount you paid in the year that you qualified for the homestead and the 65 or Older exemption.

This will give you the county, city and school tax rates. You can add it up then for yourself.

Somewhere outside Texas!

Seriously. Property taxes are crazy all over the state, and they are worse in the big cities.
