I don't either... I don't think a suburb would do it with the Rangers already in town, they'd be afraid they would be competing for attendance and wouldn't hit whatever rosy economic figures they were being shown. If it's ever done, it would have to be in Dallas.

Get Mark Cuban on board, who knows?

Finding a home for Oakland only gets you halfway there. The commissioner has said that finding a new home for Tampa is also standing in the way of expansion. All of that said, the commissioner himself has identified possible expansion locations and none of them have included second teams in existing markets. They are looking to go somewhere new. Bringing another team to this market would require a smooth talking ownership group with deep pockets and that's even the longest of longshots. Cuban may be the type to get it done, but Selig worked pretty hard to keep him out of the league. I'm not sure that he's any more welcome now than then. His name has surfaced as possible buyer for the Cubs (again) and that's likely just wild speculation.

Washington DC also has two baseball teams in the same metro area.

16 years ago Washington DC got a team despite the Orioles only being 30 miles away.

The top 5 most populace metro areas all have the population to support multiple teams in the same sport.
The DFW metro area is currently the 7th biggest metro area and rapidly growing after adding over a million residents in the past 10 years.

By 2030 there will probably be close to 9 million people in the Dallas metro area. The MLB will make more money putting a Major League team in Dallas than any small market team.

You think they would build something as nice as the new Ranger Stadium? People won't go hang around Fairpark after a game.

The A's can go to Vegas.
Who said anything about Fair Park?
Don't be so limited in your thinking.

You could put a new stadium at many sites in urban Dallas. The Cedars, Downtown, Reunion Arena, the design district, West Dallas...etc

In order for this to happen it would take a group of billionaires to form an ownership group that would work with the City and County to develop the land around the stadium as well as build a new stadium.

The great thing...is that Dallas has plenty of billionaires and the type of capitol that can make things like this happen.

There is already a ready made corporate market that can purchase the luxury suites, and club seats that will take to support a Major League team.

I can ride the Dart rail to any Mavs or Stars game I please. I would love to be able to ride a train to the game, and then stay afterwards for post game drinks/revelry and then take an uber home....just like a Minnesota Twins game.

How awesome would it be to have an American League and National League team located in the metroplex and thus every team in the Majors would visit the Dallas area at least once.

Who says?

The last time a Major League team relocated the Expos moved from Montreal to Washington DC despite the Orioles being only 30 miles away.

If Washington DC/Northern Virginia can get a baseball team then why can't Dallas?

Dallas wasn't even willing to keep the most Valuable Franchise in the World - The Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. They sure won't be willing to put up the money for a Baseball team that has major Competition just 15 miles down the road.

And the Rangers plus other major cities would raise hell with MLB.

Why should the City of Dallas use taxpayer money for a stadium? The owners are billionaires, they can afford to build a stadium themselves. Stan Kroenke did it when he moved the Rams from St Louis back to LA. Sofi stadium was built with private funds and it’s now the most expensive stadium ever constructed. Cities continue to get duped by greedy owners...

Then I'd get Elon Musk / Michael Dell to build a complex and move to a vibrant city like Austin, maybe a little south so the San Antonio people would come up for games.

Now there is a market that's much more ripe for a team. Look at how they love their Basketball.

UT Baseball is huge also.

Im curious....what other major cities are you referring to...and why should we care?

The Dallas Cowboys haven't played in Dallas since 1970. So that point is irrelevant.

Major league Baseball is a whole different animal than football. Football is big on parking and tailgating, and thus why many NFL franchises play outside of their city in Suburban areas.

Baseball is an urban game that is best experienced in a downtown urban environment. The Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals are the only two teams that play in the suburbs. (EDIT...Atlanta just moved to the suburbs, even though their stadium is still in Atlanta proper)

Every other team in the Majors plays in the Central City, and the majority are downtown.
Baseball stadiums are built downtown because there are 81 homes games/year. This makes it easily accessible for the business community to attend a game.

I keep hearing people bring up this point about the Cowboys playing outside the city limits and its kinda stupid.
I think its meant to denigrate Dallas when the reality is that passing on the stadium was the right decision.

The ROI for building a Billion dollar stadium play that only gets used 10-20x per year is low.
Dallas hotels, restaurants and other parts of its service industry (gentlemans clubs...etc) still get the benefit of out of town visitors money that come to AT&T stadium for Bowl Games, Concerts, Final Fours, and huge college football games while Arlington foots the bill.

The Los Angeles Rams & Chargers, the New York Jets and Giants, Arizona Cardinals, The New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys all play in the suburbs/outskirts of the main city where they are located.

I guess those cities all suck.....or maybe...just maybe those cities were smart enough to realize that if you are a visitor to New York and going to a Giants game you will probably still spend your money in NYC.

If you go to Phoenix you most likely will not spend a ton of time in Glendale. Its just like Arlington. You stay in Dallas or Ft Worth. You drive to the game, and then you go home.

Plano, Irving and Richardson(three cities with DART services) are exploding with new business relocations.
Where are all the new companies that have relocated to Arlington because they footed the bill for Jerry World?

San Antonio and Austin are small markets that don't have the population or business community to support a Major League Franchise that will host 81 games a year.

You must have huge corporations that are willing to purchase the luxury suites and club seats for 81 games.

MLB will eventually expand to 32 teams. They are not going to expand into cities that will turn into another Oakland or Tampa. That's all San Antonio or Austin would be if their teams did not win.

MLB (And the NBA) are only going to expand if they think the new teams will help them become more profitable.

The Dallas metro area added 1.2 million people in the last 10 years. There are 3 Fortune 10 companies located in Dallas County. DFW has a whopping 27 Billionaires.

There are more than enough businesses in Downtown Dallas, Uptown, Las Colinas, Plano and Richardson to support a second MLB team that is located off of the DART rail.
