It scares me to think that this power-hungry officer in a SLIGHTLY different scenario could easily have shot someone who was completely innocent, just upset. I fear for this guy being back on the streets and angrier than ever. This is a personality issue, not a lack of training.

WFAA Ch 8 just had an interview with a witness that was standing just feet away from Moats' vehicle when they pulled in. He said the officer jumped out of his car with his gun drawn and yelling at them. Said the officer DID have his weapon pointed at the family.

This jerk needs to be off the streets and should be BANNED from owning a firearm, period. imho

Sad thing is, after this jerk gets off his extended paid vacation, he'll probably only be committed to some paid three day "sensitivity" seminar which he'll breeze through, only to resume being the same wanna-be hard-a$$ who thrives on exacting misery on the public through his badge.

How can we hire this kinds of jerks (i said crook originally sorry) and place them as Dallas Police officers. I think its intolerable.

Wonder how others feel about this situation that happened in our city.
That morron should be sent to patrol gang infested cities like detroit, Atlanta, LA, NO, etc... as a punishment. what an arse. I hope they fire him.

It's on other national news now.
I just feel so sad for Moats. At least his wife got in there to see her mom in her last moments here.
Moats should be commended for his behavior. He can be heard repeatedly saying "yes sir", and not once did he mention that he was an NFL player.

Yeah and the more he said "yes sir" the more this pig felt it necessary to explain to him how much of a freakin' demigod he is and threaten him. See, you can't even be respectful to these pigs without getting it from them.

This could have been handled better on both sides. The Moats family could have called the police and told them they would be running red lights and why. there could have been officers at the lights to ease their way to the hospital. But this didn't happen and it made a bad mistake escalate.

the reason i say this is because my husband told me a story of how his dad was in shrevesport when they were young and a brother had broken his arm (or leg..can't remember) but nobody was available to give consent for medical treatment. His dad called the police before he left and told him he was 'coming through' and how he was going. He had a police escort the entire way to the hospital.
of course the final escort verified with the hospital staff there had been an emergency.

i know everyone is wanting to hang this officer out to dry but officers put their lives on the line every day and some traffic stops end up in a death. i am in no way excusing this officers' behavior at the hospital but we do know there have been cop shootings in recent days/weeks and i just think that it could have been handled better by both parties.

I understand what your saying but the problem with this officer is the fact that he did not change his behavior after the drivers story was confirmed. This is what people find to be so wrong. His focus was on writing the ticket and giving the driver a lecture when he should have been trying to get the driver to this dying relative before it was to late. The only reason the daughter of the dying mother made it is because she ignored the policeman commands and ran to her mother. Can you imagine missing out on the last minutes of your mothers life because some moron wants to write you a traffic ticket and lecture you on traffic safety. The driver had on his emergency flashers and did not blow thru any red lights without making sure there was no oncoming traffic. He lacked common sense which is the most important thing a officer can have.
