Actually, if I remember correctly, the summer of 2007 was not bad at all. I remember it raining quite a bit (to the point where it became annoying) that year and really never got insanely hot like we are now.

Kind of sad now when a temp like 98 or so will feel cool.

Dallas is one of the hottest cities in the entire country during the peak of summer. The only place that gets hotter is Phoenix and thats just a very small difference.

Its sad when you cant even go swimming because the water is like taking a hot bath.

What is this mythical thing you call rain? I can't seem to remember what that is.

Hell no, we need to break the old record set 1980 everybody talks about. Then everybody will talk about how hot is was in 2011.

I don't know what everybody is complaining about - it's 102 degrees lower than the boiling point...at least in the shade anyway.

Except when Phoenix hit 120 earlier in the summer. That's beyond hot, that's "holy crap did the sun explode" hot...

Phoenix HOT and Texas HOT are two different animals. I lived in the West- normal summers are 105-120 in the West. Texas is flipp'in HOT!

As much as I hate this heat, I'd be pissed off if we got one day of temperatures in the upper 90s and break the streak just for one day of half-ass relief. That almost happened last week.

We're at 32 days now. Just 11 more days to set the record.

As bad as it is, if these kind of record breaking heatwaves were happening in the Northeast or the Southwest, there would be lots of rolling brownouts due to high energy use from all the AC. So far (knock on wood) haven't seen any of those, so the TX power infrastructure must be a bit better (and people are used to keeping their AC's set a bit higher). As a result, I've only noticed the heat when forced to venture outside for any period of time during the day. So I'll take this over a miserable, dreary, cold winter period in the Northeast any day....
