Man Slain While Trying To Buy Car - News - MSNBC.com (broken link)

Stories like this cause me to start losing faith in the world. This is awful.

I heard about that this morning. Then I had to wonder why in the world would anyone thinking straight go meet a stranger (or more) carrying cash at that time of night? I don't want to say the guy deserved it at all but if he would have used a small bit of common sense...........

Just south and east of 635 and 75. Looking at Google maps (satellite view) it looks like there's an apartment complex, a hotel and a bunch of retail spaces there.

And here, a couple of years ago, a couple was selling their car on Ebay - someone was coming over to their house to buy it, instead he shot the couple, ransacked their house and took off w/valuables. You just never know. We sold a 69 Dodge Charger (Dukes of Hazard car) a few years ago and now I think how stupid I was showing people the car - home alone w/the kids. It too easy to be trusting.

I think its been brought up in another thread but most of that area in Northeast Dallas has gone to hell. Too many section 8 apartments, too many people, crime out the wazoo, over crowded schools. It's a shame because that used to be a nice area. The homes in that area are still well maintained, itsmostly all thsoe old run down apartment who rent to criminals.

I'm not sure if that is considered Lake Highlands..I can see the stuff south of LBJ along Skillman and the creek being redone, but it seems like it will be harder to revitalize the ones along Forest Lane into Garland.

That usually does not come into play for normal people that don't hang out w/ the criminal types or put themselves into positions to allow for it. That square mile is also home to nothing but apartments built all on top of each other. So you have lots of people in one little area that too many of them are low income, welfare, uneducated (sadly), etc and you have a breeding grounds for criminal mischief. I'm thinking it is time to start back up "Operation Kitchen Sink".
