I'm looking for a non-pretentious restaurant with good food and good drinks in the Knox Henderson area. We don't want anything fancy, just a good bar-type atmosphere with great food. Any suggestions?

The Porch is good--I wouldn't put it on the same level as a Chilis or anything, but there were people wearing jeans when I went

Cuba Libre, too, is great and so is Fireside Pies. They are on the east side of Central/ hwy 75

The Porch sounds perfect for what you want. If you'd like a higher price point, go across the street to Hibiscus (more of a steakhouse). Victor Tango is also good, but more of a sports bar atmosphere. All three owned by the same company (as well as Fireside Pies, but the wait is often FOREVER!) - all have great drinks. There's a passionfruit martini at Victor Tango with a sprig of thyme that is just delighful. Most drinks are made with fresh fruit juice.

Cuba Libre has been closed for a little while.

Any of the above - or The Monk. We also really like Taverna.

Cubra Libre is closed right now for renovations I believe. I was just at the Old Monk the other day, good food, great service, fun atmosphere.

Vickery Park is one of my faves - don't usually eat there usually but recently had their brisket sandwich and I think I could have eaten another! Park Restaurant farther down might also fit the bill but it's a bit more trendy. Neighborhood Services just opened in the block with the Capitol Pub - Nick is known for his food but yes it's probably a bit more upscale. Also love The Monk. Hector's might also work for you - they have specials on Wednesday and Thursday.
