A local information technology firm will move this week into a new $1.8 million facility in downtown Dayton and re-brand itself. Both changes reflect the company’s expanded capabilities and expected growth in cloud computing services, officials said.

They are in that modernist skyscraper next to the Hulman Building (AKA Liberty Bank). The building is one of three in SW Ohio designed by the late Chicago architect Harry Weese (designer of the DC Subway); the other two are the Middletown City Hall and the Formica Buidling/Mercantile Arcade in downtown Cincy.

Tridec Technologies To Create 25 Jobs in Huber Heights

Tridec Technologies expects to create 25 full-time positions, generating $1.5 million in additional annual payroll and retaining $3 million in existing payroll as a result of the company's expansion project in Huber Heights.

Tridec Technologies specializes in program and technical management, development, and implementation of IT programs with the Department of Defense, other Federal Agencies and industry.

JZ Construction Hiring 30

Samuelson said his company has more commercial projects now than it has had in seven years and is generally busier now than in the last five years. Some of the projects include the Routsong Retail center, the renovation of the future Southwest Ohio ENT Specialists facility on Patterson Boulevard downtown and the build-out of the Shish restaurant coming to Brown Street.

Ichiban Seafood Buffet Coming to Washington Township

The buffet will be a new restaurant in the Washington Park Plaza shopping center on Lyons Road. A sign on the building says Ichiban Seafood Buffet, and a note on the window says it will have sushi and seafood items featured on the menu.

The new restaurant will occupy an 11,500-square-foot space that was formerly made up of a vacant space and a restaurant called Hometown Buffet, which closed in December 2011.

Springfield May Get Jobs from Texas

Navistar International Corp.’s Springfield plant could see more work and jobs here from the closure of its Garland, Texas, facility. The truck manufacturer is expected to start moving production to other plants by January. Navistar spokesman Steve Schrier said the work will either go to Springfield’s plant, which employs more than 850 people locally, or a plant in Escobedo, Mexico.

If Springfield gets any of that work, the company would likely have to hire additional workers, said Jason Barlow, president of United Auto Workers Local 402, which represents Navistar employees.

Marion's Piazza Expands To Nine Locations

A new Marion’s Piazza will open today at 6176 Soundwave Blvd. at the Tylersville Road-Snider Road intersection.

The newest Marion’s will open this morning with about 50 employees. Hours today and going forward are 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Region Gets 250 New Jobs, $70 Million in Projects Underway

Eco-Groupe is planning a three-phase, $7.9 million investment to add machinery and boost its research and development efforts. Its flagship company, Encon, is known for making preforms used by a variety of industries to make bottles and containers. The city is asking for a $300,000 county grant toward the project, which will retain 186 jobs and allow Eco-Groupe to hire 63 more people locally during the next three years.

In addition, a trucking company is looking to consolidate and expand its local operations into a $1.9 million facility in Vandalia’s Stonequarry Crossings Industrial Park.


Spears Transfer and Expediting Inc., which has offices in Vandalia and Harrison Township., would retain 65 jobs and add eight workers if stays in Vandalia. In the application for a $50,000 grant, city officials said Spears is considering sites in Tipp City and Erlanger, Ky., for the $1.9 million project.

Dayton-Area Home Sales Beat Expectations

Dayton-area home sales surged 21 percent in October from the year before, far exceeding what local realtors and industry observers expected. The jump was the largest percentage increase in sales for any month so far this year when compared to 2011.
“This was the best October that we have had since 2007, and in 2007 we had quite a few thousand more real estate agents in the field,” said Bob Miller, president of Ohio Association of Realtors. “It’s hit in the buyers’ minds that 3 to 4 percent interest rates really make their dollar go further. We have a lot of first-time buyers out there.

Independent Pharmacies Opening in Kettering and Moraine

The pharmacies are located in the Shops at 3000, a new retail development at the corner of Far Hills Avenue and East Dorothy Lane in Kettering, and at 2749 West Alex-Bell Road adjacent to Chappy’s Tap Room and Grille in Moraine, according to Kindy Ghussin of Beavercreek, Heartland Pharmacy’s founder.

The Kettering location is a walk-in pharmacy, while the Moraine location offers drive-through service.

Yellow Springs Brewery Nears Opening Date

Yellow Springs Brewery, co-owned by Nate Cornett and Lisa Wolters, has finished nearly all of its renovations and equipment installation at 305 N. Walnut St. The couple hopes to open in January, but Cornett said he’s still chasing a moving target. Cornett said he put almost $250,000 into the brewery, which will sell beer by the pint and by the growler from an almost 4,000-square-foot space.

Bike Path Around UD is Expanding

The University of Dayton and the Miami Conservancy District are partnering to extend a bike path along the Great Miami River.

The 0.7 mile addition will cover the Great Miami River Recreation Trail bike path along the west bank of the Great Miami River from Stewart Street to the University of Dayton softball stadium.

Beavercreek Office Building Sells For $16.4 Million

The Beavercreek-based developer sold the new Northrop Grumman building, a 99,000-square-foot facility at 4065 Colonel Glenn Highway in Beavercreek, for $16.4 million to Griffin Capital Corp.


Bob Mills, chairman and owner of Mills Development, said that sale, along with an earlier sale of the new SAIC building, indicate how active the commercial real estate market is in Beavercreek.

Interesting note: SAIC is an acronym for "Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation." That company emerged from obscurity in the 1980's to produce over four million vehicles a year, almost exclusively in the Far East. But in June 2012, they opened their "North American Operations Center" in Michigan. The beginning of a new trend - cars made in the People's Republic?

I would agree with this since the people I know who work there are electrical engineers not doing anything automotive.

These rapids seem like a really nice idea. I did a little research on the downtown Dayton plan. I really like the idea of linking Dayton's already excellent bike paths and walking trails. I never felt that Downtown Dayton was that small. It is arguably larger than Downtown Akron, which boasts a higher population in the city core.
