Hi folks! Well my family and I are finally moving to Denver at this end of this month. We have found a place out in BelMar and we are absolutely elated for this long awaited move (2 years in planning - job relocation).

An observation - I just spent a week in Denver, drove from the DTC to Platt park, Baker, Wash Park, City Park, Sloan Lake, Stapleton and BelMar for 5 days straight. I saw not 1 California license plate and met absolutely no-one who was from California there. However, I did see a ton of Kansas and Iowa plates, and it seemed like every person I met was from Iowa. This seems like such a drastic change from our visit 2 years ago during the same month. I recall 2 years ago nothing but people hating on Californians for all of Denver's faults and this board was packed with nothing but Californians inquiring about a move there.

What has happened? Such a strange phenomenon in migration.
Has the animosity towards Californians subsided out there?

Regardless, I am very impressed with Denver and I really hope our family can call it home for a long time. I have relied on this board now for 3 moves and the information has always(well most of the time ) been precise and invaluable.

Thanks to all of you that truly make this forum the invaluable resource it is for moving.

wow so what were all the Iowan's doing in CO jobwise/or just vacationing? I'm looking to get out there as soon as I can find a job! I'm kicking myself for not getting out there last summer! I had a few calls on jobs back then but had already taken something locally. I REALLY want to move out there!

Iowan's were working literally every leasing/sales office I walked into. Even restaurants, the rental car counter there were 2 ladies from Iowa there. 3 ladies in the BelMar sales office were from Iowa the other from Nebraska. They even told me they see very few Californians moving there anymore, but everyone is from Iowa. Iowa Hawkeye stickers and plates gallore!

There's a lot less people able to cash out their expensive houses in California now compared to 2-3 years ago.

That's so weird because I see California license plates every day and joked with friends who visited from CA two weeks ago that they should feel like they're at home. I live in Southeast Denver and spend time both downtown and in Cherry Creek regularly.

Either way, glad to hear it's working out for you! I like the Bel Mar area.

My hotel was in Centennial and I didn't see any CA's there. But I really didn't travel around the Southeast sector, I just stayed there because it was cheap (Candlewood Suites ...I highly recommend BTW).

Thanks for the kind words.

I do think this is a factor, Californians simply cannot afford to move like they could 2 years ago. I am so glad I sold my house in 2007, I really feel bad for some of my friends who simply cannot get out of their mortgages. They're stuck.

I got out in 2008 and am glad I did too. I didn't get any money out so we're preparing for the move the old fashioned way without gobs of cash to transfer, but it still better than being trapped under water in a sinking ship.
