Hi folks! I am looking to relocate at some point within the next year to year and a half and Colorado is one of my top three choices. While I am doing a lot of research on my own I am looking for the advice of people who actually live out there. I am from NC and I know it will be a big shift in climate and such. I also realize cost of living will be drastically different.

I also plan on visiting sometime soon to get a feel for it myself, but a vacation can only tell you so much. I have no real specific city in mind, because as I said the relocation is a ways off. Just looking for some input from the locals.

Thanks for the time!

GreenLady, you haven't told us enough to help you.

Job? Kids? Retired? Price Range? City or farm town on the prairie?

Climate here is very dry, low humidity, few bugs, not bone chilling cold in winter, milder than you might expect.

Wanderlust is the main reason. I am tired of NC. I have lived here my whole life. Either in the mountains or on the coast....ready for a change. My sister's bf is from Denver and his family has always had nice things to say about Colorado. I like being outdoors and I like being able to live somewhere that doesn't have people stuffed in every corner.

I grew up on a farm..I currently live on 17+ acres, but I have lived in the city as well. I am really more in between living full blown country or city. I am a former nanny that now works from home for myself, so my job can go where-ever I go. I am single, but my elderly mother lives with me due to health reasons. She is all for going somewhere else while she can still handle to move. She is not deathly ill, but she has a heart condition and type 2 diabetes.

Our price range is kind of on the low end 60,000$ or so, but we are not against raw land that can be built on as opposed to a place that already has a house. We would like to be kind of close to Denver, but as it stands now we are a good hour or more from a major city..so having to drive a bit to get to a big city isn't an issue.

I can't imagine there's anything anywhere near the Denver area for $60k. Just not to be found.

Best advice I can give you is to look at a map, pick out some remote areas and look at realtor.com for what may be in that price range. Hard to even find raw land for $60k here unless you buy the worthless scrub land that's out in nowhere and has no buildings or utilities in place.

"While I am doing a lot of research on my own" Have you spent 2 minutes with Zillow and the max filter set to $60K?
No, you have not.
$60K will get you a former meth lab that needs work and is in a neighborhood full of drug dealers.

Best I can find for you is a few homes up in Cheyenne, WY for not more than $60k. It's a 2-3 hour drive to Denver, more if winter snows come along, as they often do, which closes I-25.

Cheyenne is a very decent place, but winters can be tough and often lots of wind. It's a big railroad town on the UPRR mainline.

Best you visit this area, see how mom handles the altitude with her heart.

Thanks! We plan to visit. As I said, just looking for a little insight from the locals.

@Dave

Also, thanks for a good place to start looking. Never even heard of Zillow. You're so sweet.
