I work in Lakewood and live elsewhere, though I'm considering moving there to be closer to work. I've heard a lot of people say they love it, but I don't get the attraction. Not meant as a knock on Lakewood - I actually wish I found it more appealing. Real estate there is far cheaper than Boulder, but it's also far from cheap. My best tip - check out Star Thai near Jewell and Wadsworth if you like Thai food. It is amazing. Enjoy your time out here!

I like Lakewood because it's not glamorous and it pretty much keeps it real.

Might consider taking a look at Wheat Ridge while your around. It's just north of Lakewood. Crown Hill park is nice, and there are a few restaurants along 38th near Wadsworth worth going to. For camping, there's also a campground in Golden right on Clear Creek: Clear Creek RV Park | City of Golden, Colorado

Not much history in Belmar. It used to be a shopping mall, now it's a "lifestyle center".

There is actually quite a bit of history concerning Belmar as it originally was, before the shopping center days. The Belmar Mansion, an exact replica of the Petit Trianon which was Marie Antoinette's palace in France, belonged to May Bonfils Stanton, an heir to the Denver Post fortune, and once occupied the original grounds of 750 acres. Mrs. Stanton owned an extensive jewelry collection including a legendary necklace called the Idol's Eye, which sported a 70 carat diamond which she reportedly wore to breakfast each day. When she died the mansion was torn down as she supposedly didn't want any other woman to live there.

Her sister, Helen, was a well-known philanthropist and supporter of the arts (Bonfils Blood Center, Helen Bonfils Theater Complex).

Great to hear GirlZilla! If you do decide on Lakewood, I live there, in one of the apartments that's part of the Belmar community. If you have any questions about Belmar and/or Lakewood, I'll try to answer. I've only been here a year, but I'm starting to get stuff figured out!
