Houston is a bit more liberal. Austin is a little more liberal than both. Your cost of living will certainly be lower in Dallas. I think it depends on your financial situation. If you have a family or you are single. You also need to consider your commute. Denver is tiny compared to Dallas. I personally would go for the lifestyle. It is very different. I have a good friend who moved to Denver with his wife. They did not even have a job there. They just up and left Houston and said it was totally worth it. Granted they had a bit of money to do it. He lives in Cherry Hills. I have ben to Denver many times. I got lucky that I am getting the chance to move there. In the end Dallas and similar to Houston. I would pick Houston over Dallas any day. If you are looking for outdoorsy then Austin is the only place to go, but the city is highly over rated. Traffic is brutal. People visit there and think it is so amazing, but living there is a different story. Good luck wherever you move!
And, if you are concerned about women. I don't think Dallas will be much better than Denver. There are plenty of hot women in Denver. We have more hot women here for sure, but 3/4ths of hot women in Houston are conservative. Yes, it is really that bad. Dallas is way more conservative than Houston. I can't wait to get out of this crazy state!
Your the guy that said Texas bbq is overrated, so I think your opinion is null and void. Dallas county hasn't elected a Republican to a county wide office in years. Susan Hawk just became the DA, but she ran as a Republican in name only. The previous Democrat DA had ethics issues. Same with many of the Democrat power brokers in this county. It's a corrupt Democrat machine up here, so you would enjoy the liberal utopia that is Dallas county.

To the OP, we have lived in both cities. Dallas is ok and it's where I grew up. I certainly have nostalgia issues with the town. I miss so much of what is no longer here, but things change. It's a decent place to raise a family. We live inside the 635 loop and rarely venture outside that loop. Everything we need is close. That being said, we miss the mountains and the outdoor activities that Colorado provides. We could possibly be moving back in the near future. The economy seems to be doing well in both areas, so that's a plus. Politics I could care less about. I'm a Libertarian so I fit into neither parties agenda. If you hate the heat, move to Denver. People are nice where ever, you just have to make friends.

The Texas bashing does get old at times, but I guess we can all agree that California sucks.

I doubt most anyone agrees that Cali sucks. It is about as good as it gets. It is also one of the most expensive areas to live in. I can bash on Texas all I want. I was born and raised in this state.

I was speaking of the transplants from California that attempt to import their political culture to whatever area they relocate. If it's so great there, stay. You have the beaches and mountains.

Calling Dallas politically conservative is an outright false statement.

Houston is an s-hole, I'll give you that. I'd rather live in Amarillo.

I was not talking about the government. I mean white people there are mostly conservative. It is in all of Texas. Anyways, I don't want to get into some big political debate. It is just so tiring and pointless.

Just a few quick pictures from our snowshoeing expedition to give the OP an idea of what kind of outdoor recreation the Front Range offers.

I've heard Texas is conservative, but at the same time I've seen articles about number of votes leaning to democrats in each election, but that might because of the large hispanic vote.
Houston does well socially. We have top museums like the MFAH, HMNS, and the Menil. Top foodie scene with restauranteurs opening up featuring exotic and creative dishes.

Houston is the only major city on the Texas Gulf Coast. Galveston along the seawall on a balmy spring day makes you feel that you are in Santa Monica; or on the West End like Malibu. The Strand can match the 3rd Street Promenade in architecture. Downtown may not be on the coast just like The Loop, but a 50 minute drive will take you to the beach just like those mountains on a previous post. (Chicago is flat too and has ugly sprawl going all the way to Joliet, Aurora, Elgin, and Waukegan--further out than any Houston suburb).

The opposite in Houston. Buildings are under construction in Downtown; townhouses surround Downtown appealing to the post-college Millennial crowd. I hear Denver is the same. A classmate mentioned he wanted to move to Denver after college because of the social and scenic climate.

Denver is a mid sized city that developed as the premier city in the non coastal Western U.S.
Might as well move to Los Angeles, the premier city in Western North America. I couldn't move to Denver for the same reasons I couldn't move to Calgary, the lack of ocean/being too far inland and not coming anywhere close to Alpha-global megacity status. L.A. has scenic mountains, ocean, and a bustling city in the Basin and the adjacent valleys.

As a college educated young 20-something woman I disagree about the "Menver" rep lol....then again I'm a Conservative with a spiritual side and those types of men are rare in Denver, in my experience.

To the OP ... I'm a Texas native and moved here from the Dallas area ( Frisco ) six years ago. The pros: Smaller metro area that's easy to navigate, beautiful scenery, a more pleasant climate, and an abundance of outdoor activities very accessible. The cons: higher COL, more liberal culture if you're a Conservative like me, constantly being asked why you don't believe it's okay to smoke pot (live and let live, but don't push it on me please) and a somewhat standoffish attitude from native Coloradoans. These are all just my personal opinions though.

This Denver has a higher CoL amazes me.

I went to Zillow and picked a $600K place at random - 2449 Worthington St, Dallas, TX 75204 is For Sale | Zillow
The taxes are $13K !! That is 4x what mine (3968Vrain.com) are in the City of Denver.

We have very high property and school taxes due to having no state tax.
