Hey guys, My Fiance and I are moving from Houston to outskirts of Denver (Colorado Springs: apartments, house)

So my Fiance and I (we are both 25) were wanting to move to the outskirts of Denver, CO (Highlands Ranch, Castlerock, Parker, etc.) and wanted to know what we should be prepared for. Obviously, finding employment is number one priority. I work in IT and she works in accounting, shouldn't be a problem finding decent employment. We really want to live in a nice apartment at first, then later on down the road, buy a house if that's where we decide to raise our children.

So what do we need to be prepared for? Any areas we shouldn't move to because of crime? Any areas we should consider moving to for a young couple? Any good companies to help us move our furniture?

Any help is appreciated.

Why Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock and Parker? Is there something on the far south side of the metro you plan on needing?

If finding employment is your "#1 priority", what happens if you find work on the north side of metro Denver? Long commute?

I would recommend a central location to start if you are coming here without jobs. HR, CP, and Parker aren't central, not even a wee bit.

Nice apartments can be found anywhere in the metro, the location and your price point will decide just how nice they will be.

Where will you be moving from? We don't know what you should expect if we don't know what you are yet to experience.

I just heard from some different people that those places (highlands ranch, parker, etc.) are really nice and not a bad commute to the Denver Tech area. We will not be moving there UNLESS we have jobs, I have some lineups already which is great.

I'm coming from the outskirts of Houston, pretty spoiled here because it's really nice and affordable.

Sure, they are really nice if you enjoy fairly new, family-oriented suburbia. The area immediately adjacent to the DTC isn't to shabby either (I live just north of it).

Just so you know, there are no "not nice" areas near the DTC, so you can likely find what you are looking for.

Denver is a bit smaller than Houston, and has a quite varied climate as I'm sure you know.

Why is it that you want to leave Houston and move to Denver? What is it about Denver/CO that appeals to you?

All of the cities you mentioned are fine. The only thing I noticed is that the Acres Green area and northern Parker were a little rattier than the rest of the Douglas County areas you mentioned. They aren't bad or terrible, just look like the neighborhoods could use a little TLC.

Moreover, there are IT jobs all over the city. The tech center name is a good bit of marketing.

Living in Castle Rock opens up job options in Colorado Springs as well.

Under very limited circumstances would I ever consider a commute over Monument Hill to Colorado Springs.

(It would have to be very high paying, and flexible hours.)
