I moved to Denver in Feb, currently live in an apartment, and looking to buy a house in the next four months. What are your suggestions to find a house from which I can have the view of the mountains, is in a good area that is within driving (30 mins) distance to DTC, and will maintain its value. I can spend upto 400k for purchase. I am single and older male. Which neighbourhoods do I look?

It really depends. My first thought is somewhere in the western part of town, like Golden, Lakewood, Ken Caryl Ranch, Morrison, etc., but honestly, I can see the mountains from my apartment and I'm in SE Denver. It all depends upon the kind of view that you're looking for --- if you want something more "up close" then the western metro area is your best bet, but if you want a "panoramic" type of view, where you're farther away, but can still see the mountains, then places like SE Aurora can work too.

Most suburbs have a higher elevation and the potential for a mountain view. Realtors can search the MLS for houses with views.

If you are commuting to the DTC I would start looking in South Aurora, Centennial, Lone Tree, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Englewood, Littleton. Depending on what else is important in a community - I like driving north or south or west in the morning to work.

I would suggest Littleton, This includes areas up to and including the foothills. Beautiful area, especially if you head out on Deer Canyon road, which puts you in the mountains, and you still have a Littleton address. With your budget you can find an acre or two with a small/older house.

I'm in the same boat as the OP and am looking at a house with a minima of 500 and a maxima of 750K.

I'm interested in several rooms and multiple levels. I'm using ziprealty.com and I was also hooked up with a few realtors by my co-workers. If I get a mountain view, I'm a happy camper

Thank you for the suggestions. In addition to the mountain views, I am looking for a house with a yard with mature trees. Does that severely limit my choices of neighbourhoods?

Krish24, you can't have both mountain views and a yard with mature trees, unless you live on the side of a hill. I guess it depends on what kind of trees you are talking about, but in my yard we have thirty foot tall cottonwood trees that are pretty common all around the metro area. I suggest looking around the Pinery area in Parker; there are great views from there.

East Centennial and Southeast Aurora meet your criteria. Some neighborhoods are now 10-15 years old and the trees have matured. You can get a great place for under $400K.
