I've been unable to sleep lately for some reason hence the 4:17 AM creation of this thread. Either way, let's focus on the good news in Detroit for a bit!

Let's start with residential development in downtown Detroit. It's to no surprise that downtown living is becoming more desirable and people are having to renovate to find space! It's not long before more development will come as downtown gains more population and properties that need to be renovated are all full up!

Jobs jobs jobs! 4700 in the Ren Cen and Compuware building in July-August alone, this combined with the infrastructure improvements and coming residential development will make downtown Detroit look like the new place-to-be!

The M1 Rail project... I know a lot oppose it, but Detroit doesn't have the affordability of the southern cities nor the lifestyle of the northern cities that are successful, this is the first step to attracting more people and employers to the corridor.

Demolition of blight... We know this is bittersweet, as those homes and their beautiful architecture meant the world to many Detroiters long ago, but there simply isn't the demand or the capability to protect them at the moment. Either way, they're a symbol of pain and struggle, a symbol no one looking at the area wants in their backyard or even along their daily commute... The urban farming initiative may make better use of those lots.

Now onto that... I am really excited about urban farming! You see a lot of people talking about taking the "green initiative" in larger cities, but what city has the land, water, and cheapness of Detroit? Toledo just to the south has a burgeoning solar industry, perhaps Detroit, too, could become a green energy power. Who knows? We could see it become the next Portland or Seattle in terms of environmental responsibility and consciousness, even though those farms are juxtaposed with factories and plants.

The auto industry! It's getting better! The Big 3 are all making profit now, and jobs are being added! Jeez! When you think about it, things in the D are lookin' up!

Now we just gotta convert the Detroit Mud Hens back into the Tigers and we've got a pretty damn sunny situation on our hands, yeah?

Post your positive thoughts on the city! Let's hear em!

I'm glad to hear the string of good news that has surrounded Detroit over the past few days. I'm moving to Downtown Detroit from downtown Phoenix in just a few days. I'm looking forward to it!

^ That's exactly what I'm talking about! Welcome to the greatest city in the world! I hope I'll be joining you soon! Holland and Kentucky are wonderful, but Detroit is home! Congrats!

Yeah, there's been nothing but good news lately. The city is coming back hard and fast.

Can't wait to be back in town next week- the southwest is killing me.

Great thread BTW.

I don't think hard and fast will keep up at this pace but as long as it's coming back I'm happy! On that note, if it does come back hard and fast I will not complain!

Funny thing is when my g/f and I were going over apartment prices she said "I thought the cost of living was cheaper in Detroit", lol, I said "go figure"

Eh, you'll both understand why when you're enjoying a Tiger's game, a fine evening on the Riverwalk, gambling at the Casinos, traveling to Canada or up north for a little out-of-your-element fun, shopping for fresh, organic produce at Eastern Market, boating in Lake St. Claire (or ice fishing for that matter) and enjoying the free concerts and beautiful parks and promenades of downtown. It's got a lot of the conveniences of downtown Chicago without the downtown Chicago crowd or price... You may have to take a car but it'll be fairly rare and parking is cheap.

If I could think good thoughts of Detroit after being kept up all night, that would be good news.

Great thread! As someone moving to there area very soon - the husband has already started working there - it's refreshing to read.

It's been years since I've been to a Tigers game. Last time I went, I got Sparky Anderson, Cecil Fielder, Alan Trammel, David Wells and a few more signatures. That tells you how long it's been!

It's not hard, good news is popping up left and right these days. It's hard to think good thoughts of it now, for some, but it's not hard to smile at what it has the potential and already is transforming into
