Because most people are pretty clueless about carbs and don't understand that fat makes up a large percentage of the calories in "high-carb" foods. For example, you use fries as an example of a high carb food. Fat makes up close to 50% of the calories in fries.

When I changed my diet to low carb I simply eliminated most of the carbs I was eating along with the animal products I was already eating. An example is that I used to eat a burger with a bun and fries. Now I go to the same restaurant and eat a burger without the bun or fries and I add a vegetable. That isn't an increase in intake of animal products. It is a decrease in carbs. Although the percentage of calories coming from animal products increases, it increases because of a reduction in total calories not because of an absolute increase in the intake of animal products.
Many people increase their total animal protein consumption.

BTW, you are losing weight not because you cut down on carbs, but because you cut down on total calories by eating less food.

I hate to disagree. I am on a low carb high fat diet and have been for over a year. I have cut down on carbs without ANY regards to calories and have lost a significant amount of weight. If anything, my calorie intake has increased since I eat full fat foods. In fact I insist on eating full fat foods since I am using that as fuel in place of carbs. Carbohydrates as most of us know are fuel for our bodies. If we constantly consume more carbs than we burn where do you think it goes? They are stored as fat reserves. The body is set up to do that. I am not eating less food. I eat till I am satisfied. You feed the body fat without carbs and it will burn fat, simple as that. That is why you lose weight on a low carb diet. The scale doesn't lie, its not a fantasy.

You could go low carb and low fat but you would not have any energy to do anything. That would be a bad idea.

In many cases this couldn't be further from the truth. Have you not read any of the new research and books from authors like Gary Taubes or Bruce Fife to name a few?

Taubes is a rather controversial figure and doesnt represent the views of modern dietary science, most of his claims are his own personal hypotheses.

Even people like doctor Oz are now finally admitting that it's carbs and sugars that causes heart disease, not fat like it was originally though.

Certain carbs can cause health issues. Not all carbs. Conversely a meat based diet will cause you problems as well. A balanced diet of lean proteins, veggies, fruits, whole grains, some dairy is going to be your most nutrient and fiber dense way of eating.
Again, its what works for the individual.

My docs all say no grain or sugar for me. If you struggle with weight and have fat around your middle, you are most likely insulin resistance. If you are insulin resistant all grains and fruit is bad for you, even starchy vegetables are.

Why is that a bad thing? Lowering carb intake lowers appetite and then people eat fewer calories.
