I on a blood thinner med for life after having multiple clots. how is thyroid med prevents a stroke?

Thanks
sorry didn't mean to be unclear. i'm on medication for high blood pressure, not thyroid. I take two pills actually. i just posted to show you that taking another med, if you need it (which it seems you do), isn't all that bad. I don't like having to take medications either at such a young age, but such is life. it's either that, or the alternative. since your dr however is suggesting to not go on medication, then don't.

as far as weight is concerned, i am still preaching the addition of exercise to your life. you'll feel better about yourself mentally at the very least.

Wish I could say it would, but it won't. But exercise will help with your fatigue and a number of other things.

One of my symptoms I can't clear up totally is fatigue (from RA), and it IS frustrating. The thyroid meds didn't seem to make a big dif, but maybe I would be worse. I used to be a big ball of energy until I started getting all these autoimmune problems.

Me too! I tell people that are meeting me at a low energy phase and they are shocked! I am not back to old energy k Velia but I do not have tons of fatigue. I’ll second the exercise though. It helps me with sleep immensely. And good sleep = better energy.

OMG! the main reason I am considering thyroid meds IS the fatigue. Sometimes, I experience fatigue as if I was run over by a bus. Doc suspects thyroid also because of the thumb pain.
I wonder why people on thyroid meds can't get off their meds? like they have to be on it for life. what if I want to stop it at one point of my life? let us say, I felt much better and don't need it anymore.

Do you guys know if thyroid malfunctions have anything to do with intense sugar cravings? I gave in today and had a cup cake instead of my lunch.

We can't get off the meds because the meds are not a cure. The thyroid is not working. It's not putting out the hormones we need, so we take the thyroid hormone artificially.

If you stopped taking it because you feel much better, that doesn't mean that you don't need it anymore. It means the meds are working. When you stop, you will be back at square one with a non-working thyroid and no replacement for the missing hormone.

No, I'm sure it has nothing to do with your sugar cravings, lol.

Oh I see your point. Thanks for the explanation.
Lol I guess I am desperately trying to find an execuse for my sugar cravings. You know it is strange though because I was completely fine without intense sugar cravings for almost two years and I didn't have the urge to eat baked goods. Now, I crave them.

Have you looked into possibly having an autoimmune disorder? Like Mikala above said the fatigue that accompanies these is crippling. One of my children has 2 AIs (Crohn's and now RA as well) and at times her ONLY symptom even when labs are normal is debilitating fatigue. Her thyroid has also been wonky at times over the years, on and off.

Autoimmune diseases are often undiagnosed for years, the symptoms can be so puzzling unless your doc is really on the ball.

I have been experiencing extreme fatigue on and off for about ten years now. I have never thought about going to an endo until this year. Now, that I am following up with a specialist who monitors my hormones and vitamins, etc.. I still feel like I am confused but a bit more informed than before.

One of the symptoms of under-active thyroid is cold sensitivity but I am experiencing the opposite. I feel warm and I can easily take my jacket off because I feel it is warm enough for me. that is not an under-active thyroid.

At the same time, my face is puffy. I have gained weight. My appetite has increased. Sometimes, I feel like I run over by a bus and I am extremely tired.

I need to read up more on autoimmune diseases. should I talk to my doctor about it? or what?

My ultimate goal now is to gain strength and lose more weight and be able to go to the gym. I want to lose the last 20-30 pounds.

Did we cover pro-biotics? Studies have shown different flora in over weight and thin people. I have never noticed anything with the pills you buy, but am a big proponent of natural probiotics. Saurkraut, kim chee, keffir, yogurt (different brands have different strains check the label, kobucha (my fave) and stuff like that.

Good mention. Pro-biotics are important. Apple cider vinegar is another good choice. I take them pill form as well, but I buy them from the refrigerated section of our local market.
