My dog is currently on PetSmart's house brand called Simply Nourish (canned). He is a very picky eater, but really loves this stuff! It looks almost human-grade, is supposedly comparable to Blue Buffalo, and his stomach seems to enjoy it too.
Thank you I looked at it and the reviews and one review I agreed with since we have the same dog. Plus the ingredients don't have any of what he has allergies too. What I have it does, tho the allergies are a very small amount to certain ingredients.
Only home cooked at my house. There have been too many recalls of commercial food, so I opted out.
There are several really good commercial foods, as long as they don't have a recall, and no brand seems immune.
The better dog foods tend to be pricey. Costco sells one that is equivalent to one the top brands (which I think it is, same ingredients) and priced about $20 cheaper. I can't think of the name right now, but it is much higher priced than the others they sell, so it isn't difficult to figure out which one it is.
Costco. I mix the food. I use 75% of the Yellow bag with 25% of the Blue bag, and the next batch I switch to 75% of the Blue bag and $25% of the Yellow bag. These are the bags with the husky looking dog on it, not the normal Kirkland brand food. Dog loves it, never had any issues. Happy dog means no ripped couch when I come home.
I feed prey model raw.
prior to that I fed 4-health, diamond NATURALS or costcos Kikland, I couldn't afford grain free which is best, but those 3 brands (all are the exact same food made by the exact same company at the exact same plant just in different bags) were a great value, no corn, soy or wheat, no byproduct, and real meat as the top ingredient...
those 3 are great choices for a good food on a budget, ut if moneys no issue...go grain free or even better is raw...but tht takes a lot more homework, resaerch and energy on your part, its not hard once you understand the biological concept...but it can be difficult to wrap the head around at first, get comfortable with and get the ratios right.
First of all, the bags at Costco are HUGE. I can't lift that. Plus, I have a Yorkshire Terrier and the time we use it up, it would be old. Secondly, he didn't like Blue Buffalo. He picked the blue stuff out and hardly would eat it. Most of the time he would ignore the food...like for 3 days.
I fed Orijen for many years but have fed Acana for the last three years...it's a tad cheaper and with five dogs...LOL I feed all the varieties of Acana...to give them a change up.
I have noticed the prices for Acana have slowly creept up and up and are now the same price as the Orijen. There used to be at least a $10-15 difference between the the two brands for the larger sized bags but not anymore. Have you noticed the same in your area?
