I just got a new puppy yesterday, but it won't stop following me around the house. He keeps walking right over my feet nearly making me fall down each time, i don't know how to get him to relax! He seems to be over excited to the point he won't eat or poop. I don't know if excitement is the reason he won't eat or poop though, im just assuming. I have teething toys, kong & tiny bones, he'll bite it for 2 seconds and then run back over to me!
The only way he's been able to calm down is if i sit him on my couch. He shortly falls asleep. But still after he wakes up, still no eating or peeing on the training mat. Please help.
I think you need to do some serious reading on puppy behaviors and how to train your dog. A google search will work for starters.
Your pup is peeing somewhere. He doesn't know that he's supposed to go on the training mat. That is a learned behavior.
He's a baby and he will have lots of energy for a couple hours, then it's time to nap, and then the energy starts again.
You sound like you are young and maybe don't know very much about how to train your pup or what to expect about raising a pup. Ideally, you would have done some research before you brought the little guy home - but what's done is done. It's up to you to be his teacher now.
Where did you get the puppy from? What kind of environment? Shelter? Neighbor? Pet shop? How old is the puppy? Some good articles here: New Pet and Bringing Home Your New Dog - Dogtime Have you taken the puppy to the vet yet?
You need to educate yourself on how to raise a puppy. His behavior is totally normal. He's a baby and you took him away from his pack. He's looking to you now for safety, comfort and socialization.
He has no clue that he's supposed to pee on the training pads. You have to teach him. Please do some research it will make life much easier for you and the puppy.

aw just a baby and scared, he has picked you as his main person to take care of him.. mine was the very same... just try and talk gently to him and get him to relax... he ll calm down, wee soul has been taken from his mother and probably lost without her..I lifted my living room rug and put doggy pads all over the floor leading to the back door... and then started to lift them daily so that only the kitchen ones near the door were left, doesnt take long and praise praise all the time.. be gentle and talk kind to the wee man.. and never hit a dog for peeing or messing.... it only makes him think that peeing is bad.....
I know some people feel 8 weeks is okay to sell a puppy. Maybe with some breeds but the ones we had I really felt 12 weeks was better.
So, is he whimpering? He is wanting close contact. Probably too cool on the floor and if you have a/c. But even so he still needs to be held. He was in a pack unless he was in a shelter and anxious there too. I've known several situations like this where I just pick up the person's dog and hold him to my chest and he's quiet, digs his nose under my arm and falls asleep.
He's anxious for the warmth and touch. How long has he been eating before you got him and what was he eating? How long has he been off his mom's nipples?
You took him away from the only home hes ever known.... Maybe he wants you to return him.
Or took him away too early.
OP: how old is the pup and was he properly weaned before arrival?
(far too many pups are adopted too young)
