Clearly your issue isn't with wanting to be a responsible pet owner, instead your issue seems to be with the 'big brother' of government...totally different issues here.

Either you're serious about wanting to bring your dog into the country or not. If it's a matter of having to micro chip your dog to make that happen, then what's the issue? Either you want your dog or not.

Now if you want to discuss the issue of big brother, then let's take that discussion to the appropriate thread and I'll glad offer my views on that.

Just a tad paranoid?
Agreed, no brainer...all 7 of my animals are chipped.

Um....just what are your dogs doing that you think the gov't might be fascinated with? Maybe your dogs are smarter or more interesting than mine but I'm thinking Big Bro hardly cares where my dog is sniffing....
After they, at great taxpayer expense, find out that - SHE'S TRACKING RABBITS!!!! - then they'll be coming after me next? Take a breath dude.

BTW - just so no one freaks out - she tracks them, doesn't catch them but in a Golden Retriever's world hope springs eternal....

I think chips are a great idea. Didn't chip my first dog b/c of skin problems - all we need is another focus of foreign body. Have also heard stories of chip failures.

But with almost no downside (and esp if it is a requirement), why not do it?

I am for plastering every form of ID on a dog that is possible.

I guess I don't understand why they would force you to chip your dog. We are not forced to chip our dogs here. It's a choice, not a requirement.

If we can't force people to spay/neuter, we sure as heck can't force 'em to microchip.

You are already here. I think it may be a requirement for bringing a pet into the country. Not 100% sure though...

You'll probably also we required to license them with the county or city you live in. Have fun ranting about that, too.

As a responsible dog owner, my dogs are chipped, licensed and neutered. All of that was done after careful consideration.

I don't see a problem with chipping. Once I return to work full time I will be chipping all 5 of my animals. Heck if I had children I'd probably want them chipped as well. I would go so far as to say we should put GPS chips in them, so not only can they be identified if found, but we could log onto our computer, find them ourselves and go get them. Of course that might not work so well, if they are roaming.
