I currently use the Grammy's Pot Pie for my 2 toy breeds. I guess I just like seeing all those peas, carrot, and potato chunks, and know I'm getting something for the money, even though it's rumored the dogs don't digest it. Ahh well, they like it and I can make a gravy if I feel like it.
Ours did very poorly on Orijen. We switched him ASAP to TOTW. He loved the taste, but his body couldn't handle all the protein. It was pure diarrhea for a week. He had no issues switching to TOTW.
If the dog is a fussy eater and has a sensitive stomach but loves Granny's pot pie and is doing well on it I say stay with it. Merrick makes good foods and they seem to be a responsible company. I feed Innova dry but mix in some canned food and usually use either Innova Flex. or one of the Merrick ones . Jazz's favotite is the Granny's Pot Pie she goes crazy the minute she smells it.
I had Dash who has a cast iron gut on EVO for a short period which is high protein and he loved it but it made his BUN go up . Jazz has a more sensitive stomach and she did not tolearte the EVO nor did she seem to like it much so if the dog loves the food and seems to do well on it stick with it as it can be hard to find food for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
It's a good food. And, as another poster said, if your babies will eat, keep feeding it
We feed Merrick's but only the varieties without potatoes and beef 'cause of allergies/sensitive tummies.
I mix the canned food with TOTW High Prairie (32% protein, BTW).
The dogs love it and the vet raves every she sees them - says they have the best looking coats around.
The reason we picked it up was because it said for senstitive stomachs. He has always had looser poops than what I think is normal, but acts fine in all other ways. He was tested for parasites, worms, etc...everything is normal. I have had my son add some probiotics in his food every day just in case.
I have used Wilderness Blend and Trout Feast with pretty good results. Although the freeze dried veggies are kind of weird to me. If he is doing well on it, especially with a sensitive stomach I'd say keep on it.
Merricks is a good food, some dogs that have pancreatis and diabetes do well with this food, and also add some dry food to it. its the low glycemic we like.
