They are varmints and do a lot of damage.

But, fun to hunt.

As usual, as soon as someone mentions liking a certain wild animal, some poster will come along and express their glee for killing it. Sick.

Like it or, not........we all do different things with our dogs.

We hunt.........mostly bear.......but, also varmints.

Wildlife needs to be controlled.........that is just a fact.

In the defense of aquietpath's point of view,

Perhaps, (looking from another perspective)...humans are the 'wild' life.

We called American Natives savages, and yet when I study history it was us that seemed savage to me.

We keep reproducing like crazy, and taking up space here on a limited real estate.

Not knocking anyone's preferences, just looking at things in another light.

Sorry a bit off topic, but thought worth mentioning when one mentions killing other living creatures.

We are all animals, and imho, deserve a level of respect.

I agree........more and more land is being developed.

That is just what it is.

And wildlife needs controlled.........for us and for them.

Dear Mr. or Ms. Driller,

Why should any animal be allowed to burn off all the others?

We have 'risen' above the others, I think we should use this knowledge to protect the planet.

Think this will cost us big time in the long run.

I understand evolution, but still respect my other brothers and sisters.

Varmit? I know the definition, and in my small world, we might be considered one...

All I mean by my post is that the world might have a broader way of looking, and I often find humans to be more of a pest.

I am not saying that there are not other animal pests besides human, just that as we invade more of their property, and then whine as a species (humans)

"a bear is in my back yard...."

we should be more understanding and not just kill.

And in retrospect, I really did get off topic!

It is Mrs. Driller.

I have no answer to your question............it is Mother Nature you will have to ask.

Letting your animals out at night in the suburb I live in is pretty much an eventual death sentence.

The cats that used to roams our neighborhood killing songbirds etc. have all been exterminated in recent years by coyotes that have taken up residence. (Or bobcat or fox or even great horned owl).

They tried to take out a neighbors beagle but the owner intervened in time. (Tied out in the backyard with 2 coyotes circling it.)

Our dog is just under 20lbs and we don't let her out to roam.

That's not counting the potential for mountain lions.

Coyote groups and Mountain lions will kill your bigger dogs too.

Yep. They're being sighted in northern IL now too along with black bear and mountain lion. My dad owns some land he likes to putter around on and he doesn't go out there unarmed anymore since it's near a lot of forest land.

Just a couple weeks ago he even saw a mink on his property! I saw a least weasel crossing the road near there too. Crazy, never saw that stuff as a kid due to trapping etc.

Heck, my father whom is nearing 70 said that as a young boy it was rare to see a deer.
