Feeling like it was just a giant waste of time for the most part.
Agreed.
I hated school, especially 6th through 8th grade like another posted said. 9th grade was not as bad really, as I increasingly found content in being alone and nobody bothered me anymore. I would always go to secluded, empty parts of the school and just relax (stare at the sky or mountains), peace & quiet. I got terrible grades because I found the homework to be extremely tedious. I understood the work, in fact so well that I though it was a waste of time and I should be doing something fun instead. I was pulled out of public school after 9th grade, and spent my remaining three high school years doing homeschooling via internet. This was great because I had the house all to myself most of the time, and I liked to take long walks around my town by myself. I still do this today.
When I was in first grade the teacher made me sit on the floor at my desk for two weeks because I used to tip my chair back on the back two legs while sitting in it. Thank you Miss Fructer (probably dead now because I'm old) you blankety-blank.
My 5th Grade teacher Mr Allgrove (probably dead, too, because I'm old) was a bully. He was very tall and skinny and had a beaky nose. He was married to another teacher in the elementary school and her daughter (from a previous marriage) was in my class with her step father teaching. He picked on this nice boy in my class by relentlessly teasing him and made the kid stutter which he never did before. He picked on others, too, but this poor kid he picked on all the time. As far as I'm concerned, he once announced to the class that everyone got a 100% on a spelling test except (my name here) really didn't because she forgot to dot an "i."
My home ec teacher in junior high (during the apron sewing part of the term) told me I was the worst student she had in 23 or 26 (can't remember which) years of teaching. Ummm, that was actually true. I still can't sew and I'm in my 60s. I'd have to dedicate a whole night to sewing on a button. Thank God, I could afford paying a dry cleaner to do my sewing when I was in the workforce. Don't even own needle and thread. I actually chuckle when I think of the incident now.
I got throw up sick during the Regents Achievement tests in High School. Had nothing to do with the tests. I was really sick.
None of the above had any real impact on me but I still think of that boy in 5th grade and wonder if he turned out okay.
