As I recall back in the late 1970's! then former El Paso Mayor Ray Salazar did not asked for voter approval as to the location on where to build the new city hall; There were proponents say that city hall should be built in the government corridor district of downtown where all the rest of the government buildings are located.
Had former mayor Ray Salazar listen then to the advise of those suggesting to build city hall in the government district instead of over at the convention center site; maybe today city hall would be safe and sound from destruction.
As far as the stadium is concern I think that it is still going to be way to small considering that they are going to start selling season tickets; so what happens if they sell all season tickets leaving the rest of El Paso out?
There is still plenty of time to plan this stadium out the right way in order to accommodate the proper seating or if it was all worth the trouble of knocking down city hall to build the stadium when they could had built it elsewhere in downtown.

A triple A ball club that averages 6K fans a game is pretty successful. Some do more and a lot do less. 9K is plenty of seats. Like Cohen, they will find a way to admit 12K for firework night.

Yeah, planning back in the 70s (or planning pretty much until the last decade) was abysmal. The building is way too big for its needs, it was built poorly with no respect to sustainability, its surrounded by a sea of asphalt parking, and its isolated from any other government offices. It needed to go. The EP Times isn't ideal, but as a temporary home its still a lot better than the current structure.

Selling out all of the available seats is the best problem a sports team can have. It creates demand and it also shows that the support for the team is very high.

It hasn't happened yet. Sign up starts tomorrow to pay $50 to get on the waiting list for season tickets - and season tickets are typically just a portion of total seating.

You actually can reserve seats now. Click on the link I posted and fill out the info. You will receive an email to get them before it is opened to the public tomorrow.

I don't really look at City Hall that way, but you do have many valid points; the structure itself is pretty solid and functional. The thing with city hall was that it was suppose to be developed with a major hotel that never got build, the hotel attempt was floated around several times along with a multilevel parking garage and a plaza that was do be built between city hall and the convention center where the Bataan railroad tracks are located but city hall just literally dropped the ball.
They had good intentions back in the 70's but they didn't have the willing investors to put up the money.

Not pretty. Were they inspired by the old Asarco buildings?
