Pawlenty is the GOP's best chance. I think the economy would have to get even worse for him to win, though. Right now, Obama can point at states like Texas to demonstrate that Republicans don't have any answers for the economy either.

I disagree, Texas alone was responsible for nearly 40% of all job creation in 2010. Even worse, the state received the lowest per capita stimulus funding of any state except North Dakota (a fact that does not bode well for Obama). Whatever they are doing down there seems to be working, their budget deficit has shrunk by $6 billion already this year.
New Post-ABC numbers show Obama leading five of six potential Republican presidential rivals tested in the poll. But he is in a dead heat with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who formally announced his 2012 candidacy last week, making jobs and the economy the central issues in his campaign.
Among all Americans, Obama and Romney are knotted at 47 percent each, and among registered voters, the former governor is numerically ahead, 49 percent to 46 percent.

The way the economy seems to be heading, it might very well get worse. As for Texas, I think you need to take another look at the job situation there, if nothing else.

I live here and I see the jobs that are being created. Many of the jobs being created enable you to be on government assistance because they pay so low.
As for the lowest per capita stimulus funding, Texas was more in the middle as opposed to the end.
The way they have gutted education and services clearly demonstrates it is not working. Texas will be the model of Republican inefficiency in regards to the economy when Obama campaigns. I guarantee it.
