United States Could 'Absorb' Another Terror Attack, Obama Says in Woodward Book

President Obama, after being warned repeatedly by his advisers about the threat of another terror attack on U.S. soil, said in an interview two months ago that the United States could "absorb" another strike.

The comment was included in the new book by journalist Bob Woodward, "Obama's Wars," excerpts of which were reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times.

..............

Despite warnings of another attack, he suggested the United States could weather a new strike.
"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger," Obama reportedly said.

Get used to it, it's already done. The election will be a formality.

Yes, after GDP had declined by 50%, from 1929 to 1932, the growth rate was higher on the rebound. To contrast this, due to an activist Fed and a Keynesian president, our recent GDP decreased by only 6%.

Your point is?

Is he incorrect?

And, by the way, saying we can weather another attack is not the same thing as inviting one.

No, he did not. He's said he would have gone had his unit been deployed, but he knew beforehand that F-100's were being withdrawn from the fight.

You really didn't just say that...did you?

Mary Mapes knew before she put the story on the air that George W. Bush, the alleged slacker, had in fact volunteered to go to Vietnam."

Oh, please. The active duty Air Force, Navy and Marine recruiting offices were open 6 days a week. If Bush wanted to fly fighter jets over Vietnam that badly, he could have walked in any time and signed up, just like millions of his peers did.

Besides if the only reason Bush was turned down to go to Vietnam was that he lacked flight hours, he could have gotten those flight hours by, let me see... FLYING more!

More likely, Bush was coached that if he didn't fly enough he wouldn't qualify to go to Vietnam. That way, he gets to be safe at home, protecting Texas from the Viet Cong and also say, 'I really, really, really wanted to got to Vietnam but they wouldn't let me.'

What we do know is well documented:
Quote:
Two weeks before he was to graduate from Yale, George Walker Bush stepped into the offices of the Texas Air National Guard at Ellington Field outside Houston and announced that he wanted to sign up for pilot training.

It was May 27, 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War. Bush was 12 days away from losing his student deferment from the draft at a time when Americans were dying in combat at the rate of 350 a week. The unit Bush wanted to join offered him the chance to fulfill his military commitment at a base in Texas. It was seen as an escape route from Vietnam by many men his age, and usually had a long waiting list.

Bush had scored only 25 percent on a "pilot aptitude" test, the lowest acceptable grade. But his father was then a congressman from Houston, and the commanders of the Texas Guard clearly had an appreciation of politics.
