We're not "supposed to have" a separation of anything from anything else. The "church and state" remark was a phrase used by Jefferson in a letter to concerned ministers. It does not appear in the Constitution.

What we ARE supposed to do is ensure that Congress "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." That's what the Constitution DOES say.

The idea that politics and religion do not overlap, and the desire that they should not, are the products of ignorance both of the Constitution and everyday reality.

SC and most of the south is baptist, so they don't care. However, the larger states in this country with a large number of Catholics won't be too happy. Trump already had little chance of winning those big states like CA, FL, OH...add this to it and he can kiss it goodbye.

that's really going out on a limb, isn't it?

I haven't seen the polls today, but wasn't Trumpf about 17 point ahead of his nearest competitor in SC?

Just imagine how much the same people would be shrieking if the Pope had the historic walls taken down: 1. All that money being used to tear down those walls could be used to help the poor, instead! 2. The Pope is tearing down history! Just two ways, off the top of my head.

If you're not aware of what the Church does for the poor of this world
then you might want to look into it.
The Catholic church makes LOTS of money from the US government in relation to refugees and migrants. They get paid to provide "charitable" services. Stands to reason the pope wants to increase immigration into our country.

It's fairly obvious that the establishment is using the Pope to usher in a new class of voters. They realize that the number of hispanic legal and illegal immigrants in this country are no good to them if they continue to hold onto their traditional, uber-conservative Catholic beliefs. The establishment sees where the population trends are in this country; and they arent growing in the direction of whites or blacks.

What we're witnessing now is a joint effort to groom, condition and ultimately reform the value set of the traditional, stubborn, Latin Catholic culture in this country, which, whatdayaknow, also happens to be the fastest growing minority group, and future voting block. The establishment knows Latino culture is deeply steeped in its religious faith. So rather than trying to steer them away from their faith to which they cling so dearly, why not just take the shortcut and change what their faith stands for? This will give this new voting block the illusion that they may still hold on to their religion, while simultaneously making their religion your new constituency on a whole range of political issues. The establishment knows that if you can get the religious figurehead to act as the mouthpiece for your own agenda, those whom he leads, are surely soon to follow.

Default Breitbart uses the right headline to describe reality of Trump/Pope controversy

As usual the media exploded this morning with misleading headlines
that did not accurately portray, you know, "what really happened"
and went ablaze with the sexier "Pope Francis says Trump is "not a Christian",
well, you read this and decide...
