Why did it take Hillary Clinton so long to become pro gay? (vote, parade)

Correct. Same goes for 95% of politicians, regardless of party.
Most politicians and parties don't give a damn about the people. The people are the "unwashed masses" in the eyes of the political elite. Most politicians just want votes, money and power. Hillary and the Democrats see lots of potential votes in the gay community, and they also realize that most pro-LGBT people are young (and thus potential Dem voters for years and decades), so they publicly take on LGBT-friendly stances and promote them via the media. It's Politics 101.
With that said, I believe Hillary herself has been LGBT-friendly for decades. It's just that the whole pro-gay/anti-gay thing didn't attract much public and media attention until recently. Once it did (i.e. once a lot more people started giving a damn), it became politically expedient to push and promote LGBT-friendly stances and policies. I think social media, blogs, Youtube, etc have played a substantial role in bringing more attention to this.
So tell us, why is the GOP platform STILL anti-LGBT today?
Because that section of the platform is stupid and idiotic. Luckily for gays, not all Republicans feel the same way, its why the Republicans went to court to remove DADT for example while Democrats defended it..
Obama sent lawyers to fight against gay rights, in court cases like DADT..
DADT was abolished in September 2011. So the new timeline:
September 2011:
DADT is no more.
May 2012:
Obama announces he supports same-sex marriage.
June 2015:
Obergefell v. Hodges.
When you say "even Obama himself opposed gay marriage.. up until the courts ruled it was unconstitutional.." - you're not telling the truth. Plain and simple.
